The 9/12 Project One Year Later

One year ago, I watched the Glen Beck show on the 9/12 project.  I was not really a regular viewer of the show due to the time it is on, as it doesn't work well with my schedule.  I watched Glen on CNN on occassion and would read some of his op-ed pieces on the CNN website. 

I am not exactly sure what drew me to this particular show, but I did schedule my day around the show.  It hit me like a ton of bricks.  My disbelief of where the country was headed was already there, as I never believed that President Obama is a centerist. 

A month or so later I went to complete strangers home for a 9/12 meeting.  I want to you know this is very unusual for me.  I am generally pretty shy.  During this meeting we went around and introduced ourselves and told a little summary of why we came.  The stories were pretty amazing.  There were several people who are immigrants to this country; some of which lived under communist type governments.  Some others, like myself, are children of immigrants and were taught to be very grateful that we live in this country. 

In the past year, I have been interviewed by CBS, NBC, MSNBC, Fox News, The Wall Street Journal, and several other smaller local papers.  Something I never thought I would do.  I have been to protests, I have vistited my representatives as well as other people's as well.  Again, a direction I didn't see my life going in. 

I have started blogging and really paying attention to what is going on both the state and federal levels of government.  To be perfectly honest, I had no idea of many of the state issues in Virginia.  I have always voted, but at times I didn't fully understand who the people were. 

I also have been reading like crazy.  Every chance I get I read about our history.  I had no idea what the founding fathers went through to create this government.  I strongly recommend everyone read the anti-federalist papers, as it will make it crystal clear what this country is NOT supposed to be.  It certainly wasn't an easy read, but very worthwhile. 

There are things about Glen Beck that I don't like. I don't always agree with him, but he has opened the eyes of many people around this country.  For that I say thank you.  I have met some really great people; such as Seville, Kerry, and many more.  I have realized how lucky I am to live in a country that gives me a voice, and I will be using that voice from now on.  I hope that the rest of the country will educate and empower themselves to stand up for what this country has always stood for;  a government of the people, by the people, for the people.
