Quote of the Day - Michael Reagan Edition

"My brother Ron was an embarrassment to his father when he was alive, and today he became an embarrassment to his mother."

Michael Reagan on his brother's claim:

"Today we are aware that the physiological and neurological changes associated with Alzheimer's can be in evidence years, even decades, before identifiable symptoms arise. The question, then, of whether my father suffered from the beginning stages of Alzheimer's while in office more or less answers itself."
The problem is that their is no evidence to back up this statement.

Let's start with the Alzheimer's diagnosis. It was announced in 1994. While it prompted some to suggest they knew Reagan had the disease as president, his four White House doctors said they saw no evidence of it
Ron Jr. went on his book to talk about a fall that President Reagan took off a horse shortly after leaving office in Mexico.  Ron Jr. says that he underwent neurosurgery in San Diego.  The records show that he was in the hospital in Arizona, not California.  The former president also made two public appearances shortly after this alleged surgery and there were no signs of a shaved head or stitches.

Ron Jr. does say that he believes that had his father known he had Alzheimer's he would have stepped down as president.  It is very well known that the President and Mrs. Reagan had very difficult relationships with both Ron Jr. and his daughter Patti Davis.

Oh boy! Ron Jr. was and continues to be a disgrace to the Reagan Family. He's just doing this to get publicity so that he can sell more books.

False. Ron Jr. has done and said many things to put a stain on his fathers presidency. It is one thing to disagree with your parents politics. I disagree with mine. (Yes my parents are/were liberals) It is another to say something like this. Patti Davis didn't want pass her parents genes onto her children so didn't have any.

You don't agree with President Reagan's policies I am sure, but to accuse him of putting his own selfishness in front of the good of the country is a totally different animal. That is what he is doing. I wouldn't be a bit surprised to find out that Nancy is very hurt by these comments.
