The vast majority of Americans, including most members of minority groups, have photo IDs. Those who don’t can get them free of charge from the state. Those without them can cast provisional ballots that will not be invalidated unless they cannot subsequently prove their identity. The idea that this uncomplicated law is a new version of “Jim Crow” drains that term of any meaning. Liberals have redefined “voting rights” to mean something different from what it did half a century ago. Then it meant depriving people of the right to vote on the basis of race. Now it means defending the right of any person who can’t prove their identities or citizenship to vote illegally. Mrs. Obama and the left have turned a sacred cause into a farce. What else is new? They turn many things into a farce. Including the term racist.
"I don't even like the word politics. It implies something underhanded and I think we need less government,"It sounds like Jay-Z is really a libertarian. His views on social issues seem to be more to the left of mine, but he seems to understand the need for limited government and fiscal responsibility of that government. So why would he support Obama? He admits it himself, it is skin color.
"I support Barack because I gotta respect that sort of vision. I gotta respect a man who is the first black President ever," he said. "To have that sort of vision and dream, I have to support that."
“I’m pro-choice. But I’m glad that there was no choice back then, because I have a wonderful daughter and three grandchildren.”Penny Marshall from her interview with Reuters.
An abortion would have absolutely been better for my mother. An abortion would have made it more likely that she would finish high school and get a college education. At college in the late 1960s, it seems likely she would have found feminism or psychology or something that would have helped her overcome her childhood trauma and pick better partners. She would have been better prepared when she had children. If nothing else, getting an abortion would have saved her from plunging into poverty. She likely would have stayed in the same socioeconomic strata as her parents and grandparents who were professors. I wish she had aborted me because I love her and want what is best for her.
With that constellation of factors, there was a very high statistical probability that my mother would be an abusive parent, that we would spend the rest of our lives in crushing poverty, and that we would both be highly vulnerable to predatory organisations and men. And that is exactly what happened. She abused me, beating me viciously and often. We lived in bone-crushing poverty, and our little family became a magnet for predatory men and organisations. My mother found minimal support in a small church, and became involved with the pastor who was undeniably schizophrenic, narcissistic and sadistic. The abuse I endured was compounded by deprivation. Before the age of 14, I had never been to a sleepover, been allowed to talk to a friend on the phone, eaten in a restaurant, watched a television show, listened to the radio, read a non-Christian book, or even worn a pair of jeans.
The world would not be a darker or poorer place without me. Actually, in terms of contributions to the world, I am a net loss. Everything that I have done – including parenting, teaching, researching, and being a loving partner – could have been done as well, if not better by other people. Any positive contributions that I have made are completely offset by what it has cost society to help me overcome the disadvantages and injuries of my childhood to become a functional and contributing member of society.
Obama is being bashed for doing the View instead of meeting world leaders. Maybe he'd rather talk to me than Netanyahu. Ever think of that?
"If he met with one leader, he would have to meet with 10."
not really concerned about what’s happened over the last four years, they really want to know what’s going to happen in the next four years.Stephanie Cutter, Deputy Campaign Manager for Obama for America speaking about women voters.
About 28 percent of city students entering ninth grade have already had sex, and more than half are sexually active before completing high school, according to city data.
Teacher Rosa Chavez applauded CATCH, saying she had two pregnant students last year. Getting knocked up, she said, “is not cool and not accepted among peers.”
But Chavez worries that giving girls Plan B emergency contraception might encourage careless sex.
“We can’t give out a Tylenol without a doctor’ s order,” said a school staffer. “Why should we give out hormonal preparations with far more serious possible side effects, such as blood clots and hypertension?”
But sophomore Annette Palacios, 15, outside the school with her mom, said parents should give consent in case their children are “allergic” to the drugs.
“Girls shouldn’t be sexually active at that age,” she added.
Her mom, Pania, complained that she got no opt-out letter — and does not want Annette to secretly get Plan B or birth-control pills from the nurse.
“And, by the way, I’ve been saying this for 30 years. And I’m glad to see that Congressman Ryan likes his dad, too, and quotes his dad. I mean that sincerely. But my dad [had] a lot of wisdom. Every time someone tells you, say, ‘Look, let me tell you what’s important to me, what I value.’ My dad would go, ‘No, no. Don’t tell me what you value. Show me your budget, and I will tell you what you value.’”
The overdue release of Gov. Romney’s 2011 tax return and failure to offer more than a cryptic summary of earlier years both raise more questions than they answer.
What Americans did learn today is that Gov. Romney had to artificially engineer his tax rate to avoid paying only about 9 percent on almost $14 million in investment income. Even with his accounting trick, he still paid a lower percentage in taxes than the millions of working Americans who Gov. Romney derided as lazy victims of government dependency.
Gov. Romney’s cooked tax rate of 14.1 percent is also still lower than that of the millions of middle-class families, who would see a $2,000 tax increase under a Romney presidency.
Gov. Romney himself recently said that if he paid more than he owed, it would “disqualify” him from being president. But that’s exactly what he did, as we saw today when he released his 2011 tax returns just to generate better headlines.
Gov. Romney should immediately meet the standard expected by the American people, a standard he set for his vice presidential nominee—10 years of full tax returns. It is time for Gov. Romney to come clean about his own tax returns and the tax returns he will be imposing on America’s middle class. This from The Center for American Progress.
Clean Water programs in third world countries, wheelchairs for the disabled, Tsunami relief in Japan, earthquake relief in Pakistan, self sufficeny projects in the Andres, earthquake relief in Haiti, immunizing against preventable illnesses, poverty relief in Africa, vision care for the poor, homes for at risk boys, working to help to prevent amputations, working with amputees.Horrible, horrible people. How dare they give money and time to these causes? The Romney's have their own foundation that works with at risk children. Ann has given money to Planned Parenthood, to help with breast cancer outreach to poor communities. They give money to help fund research into M.S. Again, horrible people - how dare they.
Income taxes: A family of four in the exact middle of the income spectrum will pay only 5.6 percent of its 2011 income in federal income taxes, according to a new analysis by the Urban Institute-Brookings Institution Tax Policy Center. [3] Average income tax rates for these typical families have been lower during the Bush and Obama Administrations than at any time since the 1950s, as Figure 1 shows. (As discussed below, 2009 and 2010 were particularly low because of the temporary Making Work Pay Tax Credit.) And for those that don't know, Brookings is left leaning. The Romney's are in the 80 percent of tax payers. Only 20% of Americans pay a higher rate then he does. Sad, but the truth is the truth.
"Harry Reid made a statement that is true. Somebody told him. It is a fact," Pelosi told The Huffington Post in a Sunday interview. "Whether he did or not can easily be disposed of: Mitt Romney can release his tax returns and show whether he paid taxes."

Federal income taxes on middle-income families have declined significantly in recent decades. In 2000, the yearbefore the 2001 tax cut enacted by President Bush and Congress, the median-income family of four paid 8.0 percent of its income in individual income taxes, according to Tax Policy Center estimates — a smaller share than in any year since 1967 (except for 1998 and 1999).[4]
The Bush tax cuts further reduced middle-income tax obligations. This year (i.e., when people pay income tax on 2011 income) the Tax Policy Center estimates that the median-income family of four will pay 5.6 percent of its income in federal income taxes.
Chick-fil-A has pledged to stop giving money to anti-gay groups and to back off political and social debates after an executive’s comments this summer landed the fast-food chain smack in the middle of the gay marriage debate.
The Civil Rights Agenda, which dubs itself the largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender advocacy group in Illinois, said Chick-fil-A agreed in meetings to stop donating to groups such as Focus on the Family and the National Organization for Marriage. Such groups oppose same-sex marriage.
Given the known consequences, it's time to ban garbage that mocks the God of a billion people and purposefully incites the worst religious passions. It's time the Supreme Court reconsidered whether such fiery speech should indeed be protected.Steven Kurlander of Hernando Today on the video that did not cause the riots in the Muslim world. The evidence is quite clear, that it was a pre-planned attack to avenge the killing of #2 of al-Qaeda.
"I think we're seeing, in these events this week, the further education of a president who was, and to some extent, remains a foreign policy novice and he is learning that his mere Obamaness and all that goes with is simply not sufficient to change the fact that the Middle East remains a tinderbox subject to being lit ablaze by even a small match, which I think that movie is at best a small match,"Britt Hume on President Obama and the Middle East
While the United States rejects efforts to denigrate the religious beliefs of others,
"We ask the American government to take a firm position toward this film's producers within the framework of international charters that criminalise acts that stir strife on the basis of race, colour or religion."

"I don’t know about you, but I’ve never thought of government as something I belong to."Paul Ryan, today on the campaign trail.
“I’m not saying this is an absolute but in a way, if you’re not having kids – who gives a damn? Love who you want. Isn’t that what we say? Gay marriage – love who you want? If it’s your brother or sister it’s super-weird, but if you look at it, you’re not hurting anybody except every single person who freaks out because you’re in love with one another.”
This effect accounts for the fact that, to our best knowledge, in every human society in history, incest is avoided and usually a social tabooChildren who were raised together develop a strong sexual disinterest for each other. This even works if they are not biologically related. The effect has been studied in Israeli kibbutzim, where children are raised in cohorts of the same age, and there are hardly any marriages among members later.
"We ask the American government to take a firm position toward this film's producers within the framework of international charters that criminalise acts that stir strife on the basis of race, colour or religion."Hisham Kandil, Prime Minister of Egypt, statement on the attacks on the U.S. Embassy in Cairo.
"When you have a situation that is unfolding rapidly, a lot of times people fall back to first instinct, and in that first instinct, which is more reflex than strategic thought sometimes, you get to see what they think is most important,"
"This morning's condemnation still stands. As does our condemnation of unjustified breach of the Embassy."
The Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims – as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions. Today, the 11th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States, Americans are honoring our patriots and those who serve our nation as the fitting response to the enemies of democracy. Respect for religious beliefs is a cornerstone of American democracy. We firmly reject the actions by those who abuse the universal right of free speech to hurt the religious beliefs of others
If you wouldn't have been there that night, none of this would have happened to you. I hope you look at what you've been through and try to take something positive out of it. You learned a lesson about friendship and you learned a lesson about vulnerability."
"It was never my intention to make a situation worse for any victim,"
"These people put their lives on the line every day," Evan's former partner said. "I hope you'll be lenient on him. To me, this is one way we can give a little back to those in law enforcement who give so much to us everyday."
