America is Not Buying What President Obama is Pushing

Gallup released a new poll that is not good for President Obama's campaign strategy.

Importance of federal government attempting series of actions

But what is really fascinating is this:

Do you think that fact that some in America are rich and some are poor is a fact of life

Even with the economy being much worse than it was in 1998 more than half feel that there being a difference between rich and poor is acceptable.  Another words, they like capitalism.

President Obama should take heed.  Even in a horrible economy Americans don't want a quasi-socialist economy that President Obama has spent the past three years trying to create.

God Bless America.

Occupy Wall Street Quote of the Day - Ah, The Irony

Apparently, they are having some theft problems at poopalooza.

“Stealing is our biggest problem at the moment,” said Nan Terrie, 18, a kitchen and legal-team volunteer from Fort Lauderdale.

“I had my Mac stolen — that was like $5,500. Every night, something else is gone. Last night, our entire [kitchen] budget for the day was stolen, so the first thing I had to do was . . . get the message out to our supporters that we needed food!”
Now, what are the chances that she paid for that $5K computer herself?  I have this feeling it was a gift from Mommy and Daddy.  She is 18 years old and doesn't seem to have a job or classes to go to.  She can spend her time at "protesting" the dirty rich.

I can't afford to spend almost 6 grand on a computer.

So Nan, since you can afford a computer that is that expensive and I can't, it is only "fair" that someone else in need gets it.  After all, that is what spreading the wealth is all about.  You have more than others, so you have to share.  Even if it is taken by force.

Dumb asses.

UC Berkeley Students Asked to Pay their "Fair Share" of the National Debt

This is another video of the very lonely republicans at UC-Berkley. They also did a video on redistributing GPA’s, which of course they did not want to do.

At about 2 minutes into the video they asked someone who is part of the Student Democrats and she said that she doesn’t contribute to the national debt so she shouldn’t have to pay it. Hmm, it would seem to me that she contributes to it more than I do with her belief system on how our tax dollars should be spent, or should I say wasted.

But, hey that is just a pesky little detail.

They then ask what we should do to cut the debt. Tax the rich was the main answer behind getting rid of defense spending. One girl feels that we are the least taxed people on earth. Our corporate taxes are some of the highest on earth. But, again a pesky little detail. But taxing the rich will redistribute it more fairly. Of course we have seen their real opinion on redistribution.

My Tax Day Ode

Since DC celebrated Emancipation Day on Friday, tax day was moved to today.

"Spreading the Wealth" is really only a good idea if you are not giving up anything.

Enjoy!!!

Quote of the Day - Nancy Pelosi Edition

...We’re talking about addressing the disparity in our country of income, where the wealthy people continue to get wealthier and some other people are falling out of the middle class, when we want to bring many more people into the middle class.

But that disparity is not just about wages alone, that disparity is about ownership and equity.

It’s all about fairness in our country.

And we believe the healthcare bill is about jobs, the energy bill is about jobs, the education bill is about jobs, certainly the Recovery Act is about jobs...

And when people have those jobs, we want them to be able to bargain collectively. We want to pass the Employer Free choice act as well...
Nancy Pelosi to Union Workers

My question is when can we start spreading the wealth of her winery?  We can dig up all the grape vines, divide up the property and build some row houses to people who have less than her.  She is one of the "rich", the net worth of the winery is listed somewhere between $5 - $25 million (they don't have to be all that clear on those congressional forms apparently).  I don't own anything that is worth remotely close to $5 million.  So, I think she should spread her wealth with me.  Oh, yeah, she makes $176,000 per year.  She should cut her salary by 2/3 and give the rest to me as I make much less than that per year. Actually, since she has money and property she really doesn't need the money, so c'mon Nanny, hand it over.

Spreading The Wealth - Not So Much

While perusing other blogs I enjoy reading the comments. In many cases we are really just preaching to the choir, but every now and then we get the real treat of hearing opposing opinions. Sadly, sometimes they are not opposing opinions, but the comments are outright mean-spirited. While reading a post on a blog I read often; Left Coast Rebel I came across one such comment.

This is a comment left by Anonymous:

I find it far more elitist to think that the poor deserve to die starving, diseased, and ignorant while the those who happen to be born with talents the market happens to be seeking at the time are rewarded with opulence and excess beyond measure

Now, this comment is placed on a post about MSNBC’s deception of showing a picture of a man who came to a town hall meeting with guns. During the showing of this picture they were having a discussion about racists possibly taking a shot at a black president. The problem was the man with the guns was also black, but they cropped the picture in such a way that you wouldn’t know that.

I will be the first to admit that bloggers on both sides of the aisle can be, let’s just say, not very tolerant of other views. I sometimes cringe when I read some of the things that are posted. I recently hid someone on facebook because I found the postings to be vile and unproductive. This particular person epitomizes what is wrong with the political landscape in this country. The posts have racial undertones that I find very uncomfortable. But I digress here. What exactly is the correlation here?

I have been reading LCR’s blog for a while now. I have yet to find anything on there that would warrant such a charge. There is a stereotypical view of conservatives; we have outright disdain of the poor. The facts just don’t bear out that conclusion.

Studies have shown that conservatives/republicans/Christians give more money to charity than the leftwing/democrats/atheists’ of the world. One has to look no further than Vice President Biden. This is a man that has the audacity to go on television and talk about paying higher taxes as a patriotic duty as we need to help the vulnerable of our nation; yet he gives a mere pittance of his yearly salary to help these people. I give a larger percentage of my salary to charity than he does.

Recently I came across a very interesting tidbit. Regular readers of my blogs know that I love little tidbits, and post them regularly. So here is one that should make anonymous think. I may be incorrect here, but I have this feeling that (s)he believes in the president’s view of “spreading the wealth”. Economists call the total global wealth supply the M3 value. We will take the entire world’s wealth and put into one large pot and “spread” out equally among every person on earth we would each get $9000. Does this still sound like a good idea? If you live in say North Korea or the poorest sections of South Africa I guess the answer would be yes. But if you are living in America, you will be thinking this is not such a good deal.

So, let us take this one step further. Does anyone believe that after making everything equal financially that it will stay that way in say 18 months? There is no way a logical thinking person can conclude that it will. One needs to look no further than Chris Gardner. This is a man who against all odds succeeded. He is far from the only person who makes a very successful life for himself after having virtually nothing. There are plenty of people who don’t make that type of wealth, but still make a decent life for themselves and their families. Yes, luck is sometimes a factor, but almost always hard work is involved.

It just irks me that people feel like some sort of Utopia actually exists. It doesn’t. It would be nice if that were true, maybe it would be more “fair”. The reality is life is not fair. No government or human being can make it so. Good things happen to bad people, and bad things happen to good people. All we can do is work hard and help others along the way.
