The Not So Virgin Mary and Joseph
I honestly don't know what to say. I rarely get left speechless, but this did it. This was a billboard that was put up by a church in New Zealand. How can a church not understand that this would be offensive to people? Amazing.

I have absolutely no words. What were they thinking?
Ummmm...okay then.
sure would like to hear the sermon on that one tho.
I agree with The Griper: exactly what liturgy would follow and support this 'church's' position regarding this billboard in the pulpit that Sunday.
Unbelieveable.
Now I'm spamming and I hope you don't mind, but it is for a good cause...
IT COSTS YOU NOTHING…Please do this for a sick child. http://theredheadriter.blogspot.com/2009/12/if-youre-blessed-take-minute.html
That is shocking, but not surprising as so many 'churches' are apostate. Sad, really. They do more damage than good for spreading the Gospel. Well, we all know what the truth is. We'll take the high road and run with that. :)
Merry Christmas gal! You are very appreciated!
This is awful. Not only is this blatantly trashy, but it's also demeaning. Sex is about being with the one you love and connecting with each other - not "skill."
Truth is, Joseph was in perhaps as unique a situation as Mary. Catholic churches focus a lot on Mary, who was indeed blessed among women. We rarely consider the plight that Joseph was in.
Michael Card wrote a song called "Joseph's song", that is worth a listen.

What's most offensive about this cartoon is that The Blessed Mary was a virgin and had she ever had "relations" with Joseph, it would have been adultery. This "scene" never took place.
Sus
Sus,
That is more a belief system among catholics than most other Christian sects. There is no bibical information that Mary remained a virgin for life. Jesus did have siblings, according the Catholic church those were Joseph's kids from an earlier marriage, but there is nothing in the bible that clears that up either way. But either way, this is trashy and not a good idea for church to be bringing out these types of images.
