I’ve got to confess, though, I found this result surprising. As I pushed the button to run the analysis on my computer, I fully expected I’d be shown a modest negative correlation between identifying with the Tea Party and science comprehension.

But then again, I don’t know a single person who identifies with the Tea Party.  All my impressions come from watching cable tv — & I don’t watch Fox News very often — and reading the paper (New York Times daily, plus a variety of politics-focused internet sites like Huffington Post & Politico).  

I’m a little embarrassed, but mainly I’m just glad that I no longer hold this particular mistaken view.

Maybe getting out of that liberal bubble once in a while is good thing.  Especially when that bubble includes Yale University.  

Oh, The Ties that Bind. Why I.R.S., The AP Records, and Benghazi Matters to All Americans

The Obama administration is in the middle of three "scandals".  The fact the media is finally on board with them all is great start.  Of course this is years too late, but I will say welcome aboard.  

The I.R.S. is the most important, to me anyway.  Others will have another view of it.  But to find out that one of the most powerful government agencies was specifically targeting people based on political affiliation is nothing short of Nixonian and completely unacceptable.  This shouldn't matter what side of the political aisle you are on.  If this is allowed to happen, it won't take long for them to come gunning for an organization that you are fond of.  It doesn't matter that these groups happened to be conservative.  All that matters is that a government agency that has the power to put you in jail was targeting individual Americans as well as non-profit groups.  There is no way to say at this moment if President Obama is involved.  I, of course, wouldn't be a bit surprised if he were, but so far at this point the evidence of that isn't out there.  Yet. 

But we do see is a pattern of behavior with this administration.  Of course people like me have been saying this for years, but at least the media is seeing it for themselves.  President Obama doesn't like anything that doesn't fit his narrative.  If he doesn't like, he thinks he can just ignore it and somehow the rest of us won't figure it out.  

Baghdad Bob Jim Carney is reaching epic proportions of comedy with his denials that the White House had a hand in the changing the talking points of the terrorist attacks on Benghazi.  I mean seriously, it was the anniversary of 9/11, did anyone in this country not automatically think terrorism the moment they heard about the attacks?  al Qaeda is well-known for liking anniversaries and dates that have meaning for their attacks.  That is isn't a talking point, it is just a statement of fact.  Anyone that is paying attention, even a little, has seen the original C.I.A. talking points and what the statement became after all the fingers got into that pie.  Some of those fingers came from The White House.  Denying it only makes them look silly.  But denying they are.  

The AP dustup is very interesting considering that President Obama and AG Holder both have been talking about changing the laws regarding the rules that the government has when it comes to national security leaks and the press.  Yet, four years later nothing has been done.  The real scary part of this incident is that people who have information that the American people should be aware of they will be afraid to come forward.  That doesn't bode well for future generations.  

The ties to all of these stories comes down to how stupid this administration is.  This is by their own admission.  Apparently, according to Obama, the daily presidential briefing never said the word terrorism, even though we now know that the C.I.A. said about the final version that they didn't see point of the talking points since all words of terrorism were removed.  President Obama didn't know about the I.R.S. scandal until the news reports.  Both he and his spokesperson has said this.  The report was given to them two weeks ago.  The same story about the AP scandal.  What type of management is being used in this White House?  Who exactly is making these decisions not to bring this to the attention of the president?  Shouldn't that person be held responsible for making the president look so inept?  Now, I personally feel that president is inept, but for those that are his "fans" it must be very disappointing indeed.  

But the biggest problem with all of these scandals what is really going to happen is the loss of trust in the government.  It isn't like the trust was all that great to start with.  Matter of fact, it is very, very, low.  Those numbers are just going to go lower.  While this may in the end, help the politico class, because fewer people are going to pay attention.  They may end up staying in office because only the truly partisan will show up to vote in 14.  Which of course means that the problems will only get worse.  

I do wonder if President Obama would like to change his words during OSU's graduation speech:

Unfortunately, you’ve grown up hearing voices that incessantly warn of government as nothing more than some separate, sinister entity that’s at the root of all our problems; some of these same voices also doing their best to gum up the works. They’ll warn that tyranny is always lurking just around the corner. You should reject these voices. Because what they suggest is that our brave and creative and unique experiment in self-rule is somehow just a sham with which we can’t be trusted.

We have never been a people who place all of our faith in government to solve our problems; we shouldn’t want to. But we don’t think the government is the source of all our problems, either. Because we understand that this democracy is ours. And as citizens, we understand that it’s not about what America can do for us; it’s about what can be done by us, together, through the hard and frustrating but absolutely necessary work of self-government. (Applause.) And, Class of 2013, you have to be involved in that process

Yes some of those voices talking of tyranny are The Tea Party.  Turns out they were right.

Conservative Activism Alerts

Stand up for religious freedom tomorrow at noon.  What religion you practice is not relevant, it is the fact that this administration feels it has the right to tell churches and religious organizations that their consciences do not matter.  The Constitution says otherwise.  This has never been about birth control, it is about religious freedom and how President Obama and his minions are trying to take that away from the American people.  Locations here.

A small group of local activists will have committed to having someone at the court the entire time arguments are being heard.  We will be there with signs and walking the sidewalks around the court.  There is no set time for this, but if you are in town and wish to help out, please be there between 8 and 3 both days.  Where comfy shoes as you will be required to keep walking.

Isn't The Tea Party Standing Up for the Constitution?

As you may have figured out I am very active on social media.  I am on every presidential candidate's email list, I get emails from all types of conservative groups, and I have twitter and facebook accounts as well.  I get all kinds of things sent to me about the conservative movement.  Many of which mention the constitution.  I have been doing reading and going to different events to learn more about the constitution.

So I was very surprised today when I was told that The Tea Party Mission didn't include the rally that is being held on March 23 to preserve religious freedom.  The posting I put up on this rally was removed and I was given a warning for breaking the "rules".  Really?  I would like to know what exactly I have been doing for the past three years then.  Wasn't the entire point of learning more about the constitution was to be able to elect officials that would actually follow it?

I am in agreement that social issues are not necessarily the purview of The Tea Party, but how exactly do you separate an issue of the first amendment and The Tea Party?  The entire reason we are in the place that we find ourselves in now is because the federal government has been trampling all over our constitutional rights for several generations now.  The federal government has grown well beyond what the founders ever intended.  As such they involve themselves in things that are none of their business and are better left for the states and local governments to decide.  When they do this they waste more and more of our resources in terms of time and money as well as stripping our freedoms away; bit by bit.

The Tea Party was also formed to let our government know that we were no longer going to stand and allow them to take more and more of our freedoms away.  Mandating to the church that they have to violate their consciences in order to provide free birth control is all about freedom.  It doesn't matter what you personally feel about birth control and/or abortion because they are not the issue.  This is strictly a first amendment issue.  It is just being discussed in terms of birth control and women's health.

You need to ask yourselves if the government is allowed to take this protected right away from the church what is next?  If the Tea Party isn't going to stand up and protect this then they may as well just fold up the tents and go home.  Because we are done.

Ann Coulter has Offically Crossed over to the Dark Side

Yeah, Ann Coulter is now saying that the tea party is being hypocritical for not supporting Romney. Of the four candidates left, Newt has the highest conservative voting record. While Romney was never in Congress so it is hard to compare apples to apples, but there is this one little, ok not little, really big thing called Romneycare.

It wasn't all that long ago that Coulter was saying if Christie didn't run, Romney would be the nominee and he would lose to Obama. Romney's record hasn't changed in the past year. He will still lose if he is the nominee. I fully understand if what she is trying to do is be a cheerleader for the party's nominee to get Obama out of office. But that isn't what she is doing.

I am left dumbfounded and disappointed in Ms. Coulter.

Had I known this was going to be at the press club I would have gone down for it.  Oh well.  

Ignorance and Government Dependency

Several small studies have been completed by The University of Waterloo, Ontario and Duke University, the finding show that more ignorant a person is on a complicated issue the more likely they are to allow the government handle it. I would think that Global Warming would be one of these issues, as trying to read some of the scientific data on it is a mind numbing experience.

But, I have to wonder would the results be similar if they studied less complicated issues?  We live in a society where government dependency is becoming more and more commonplace. One has to look no further on the record numbers on food stamps at the moment. While there is an economic reason why so many have found themselves in a position to take help from the government at this point in time in our history, can we say that this is not going to lead to more government dependency as time goes on? I don't think that will be clear for quite some time, but it should be a growing concern in this country.

We are seeing Europe going through austerity measures and in Greece the people are not reacting well to having to retire later and getting fewer benefits.  Isn't this sort of the same type of thing?  Is the average person living in Greece looking at the numbers and looking at the not so healthy world economy?  One would think that if they were paying even the least little bit of attention they would realize that the changes are quite literally vital to their country's economic well-being.  

Uncertainty brings anxiety, Shepherd and Kay explain, and one way to deal with that anxiety is to “simply outsource personal responsibility to supposed qualified others.”

Do we really have "qualified others" in our government at present?  I am sure that some are, but just take a look at the failure of the "Super Committee", a committee that was formed that never had a chance of anything but failure.  These are the people we should be looking at as qualified?  


But here is the money item:

 “Being actively critical of something one is dependent on is thought to be psychologically uncomfortable, and therefore avoided in favor of increased perceptions of legitimacy, trust, and desirability. System justification theory posits that people are motivated to justify and legitimize the status quo and the system in which one lives.”

Once you have turned over the control to the government you are basically giving them unlimited power to do whatever they want to your life.  You become complacent and no longer feel the need or the desire to pay close attention to what is going on around you.  You become almost slave like to the whims of people who you have never met, who don't understand your real needs or desires, nor do they care to know.  You have given them unbridled power to behave as they so choose.  They then become addicted to the power and will say and do anything to hold onto that power.  


I have been saying for years that we have no one to blame but ourselves for the mess that we are currently facing.  We have the government that we deserve.  We expected it work just fine on auto-pilot.  Clearly, with trillions of dollars worth of debt, public schools that are failing our children, and public officials that are out of control, we were wrong.  


The one bright spot of the research was the following on the Tea Party:

“Generally I think of those movements as representing instances where people are not following our model, possibly because these are people who feel a) a sense of personal control/efficacy, and b) feel like their behavior can create change. This sense of personal control and ability to create change may make people feel less dependent on the government, or change how they respond to perceived dependence. Either way, it means that the individual may be less inclined to truth authority and avoid the issues.”

It is clear that we must become more involved in our government and the issues facing this country or we face a life of dependency and outsourcing any sort of control over our own lives. 

There is Hope for this Country Yet

College students were having none of Francis Piven's nonsense and outright lies that the Tea Party is a bunch of racists.  While I do find it very strange that she was asked to speak at Messiah College.  I don't know what they expected her to say.  Her book speaks for itself.  The destruction of The U.S. is her goal, by any means possible. 

I am sure that the left is looking at this video and wondering why college students were allowed to be so rude to speaker.  Welcome to our world.  This is what happens to conservatives routinely.

Pelosi V. Cantor on Wall Street Protesters

"I didn't hear him say anything when the Tea Party was out demonstrating, actually spitting on members of Congress right here in the Capitol. And he and his colleagues were putting signs in the windows encouraging them. But let's not get down to that."

Nancy Pelosi on Eric Cantor's statement that he was worried about the Wall Street Protesters.  So, let's see, first and foremost, the spitting never happened.  At least not in the context that Nanny would like people to believe in this statement.  The video evidence of what happened was found, quite a while ago in fact.  It was a say it don't spray it situation.  There was no intent to spit on any member of congress during any tea party.  The Tea Party was responsible for shutting down one of the offices of congress when after Speaker Pelosi's office refused to open the door, let alone speak to the protesters they ripped up paper from a copy of Obamacare.  I witnesses that event, and at the time said it was a bad idea to allow ourselves to be provoked in this manner.  But what wasn't widely reported was the fact that other members of the tea party went back into the building and help clean up the mess after the offices were re-opened. 

Here are the facts, not one person who was attending a Tea Party protest as a real member of the Tea Party has been arrested.  Now, when the left sends their agitators, they get arrested, or bite off some poot guy's finger, but no Tea Party member has been arrested.  We have never demanded to use the restrooms in private businesses even when though we are not paying customers of those businesses.  We have not taken over any park and said to hell with the people who live in that neighborhood.  When two young people walked through the crowd at the Glenn Beck rally last August wearing Obama T-shirts to provoke the crowd, they themselves said that only thing that was said to them is that they would prayed for.  Other than that, all they got was strange looks.  I am guilty of giving a strange look to them.  I couldn't understand why they were there. 

To say that there is a comparison between the Tea Party and the Wall Street protesters is ludicrous.  The Tea Party protesters bring lawn chairs and listen to speeches.  We watch over each other's things when you need to take a bathroom break, we keep an eye on each other's children, and then when the rally is over we get out our garbage bags and clean up any mess that may have been left behind.  We neatly fold our signs and put them in the nearest garbage we can find.  The place is left spotless.  We then go over and thank the police officers for giving us security so the counter protesters don't bother us.

I can guarantee you, you will never see this at a Tea Party protest. 
If this man is the 99%, I will proudly be part of the 1%.

‘President Obama Scares Them Every Single Day’






Michele Bachmann's performance was much improved over last week. She also didn't look like she had bed head, so that was a help too. I personally think she went too far with the Gardasil attack. I think many in the country don't necessarily object to the drug, but do object to the mandatory nature of shot. Personally, my biggest objection is that he did by executive order. That doesn't sit well with me.






Rick Santorum is very good debater. He still has no shot at the nomination, but he would make a solid VP pick, especially if the worst possible scenario of Huntsman getting the nomination comes to pass.






Huntsman should be hanging his head in absolute shame when asked about how women are treated under the Taliban basically he said, it sucks to be you, now go away. Disgraceful.






As usual Romney avoided all the tough questions and did no damage. He didn't win, but he didn't lose.






Herman Cain had some very good moments. But, a Tea Party audience is tailored made for him. I dont' think it will bring him up to the next tier of candidates, but it will help with his fundraising I am sure.






Ron Paul, was well, Ron Paul. If you agree with him, you think he did great. If you are not inclined to agree with him he looked like a fool.






The biggest loser was Rick Perry. He had a hard time defending himself against the attacks that came from all angles tonight. He did especially bad on the Gardasil issue. He said he was offended that Bachmann thought he could be bought off for $5,000. It almost sounded like he could be bought off for a higher amount. (not saying that is true, but it sounded a tad like that, to me anyway). I personally agree with him on the fence issue. It would be outrageously expensive and wouldn't be all that effective. They would just dig under it, the drug tunnels are testament to that. But he will have some problems on immigration. He is perceived as weak on that issue. I met someone recently who grew up in Texas in a small town. Due to where she lived and the land her parents have she told me that like it or not, the right needs to accept a worker's visa. They are necessary. She said that people who don't live it, have a different view of the immigration problem than the governor of a border state will. She is a conservative who doesn't want to see amnesty, but has a perspective that I certainly don't understand living in the mid atlantic and in an urban setting.






Did Perry lose badly enough to lose the nomination? No. But he needs to improve if he wants to keep his frontrunner status.

First I would like to say how shocked I am that Congressman Carson's comments are getting mainstream media attention.  Normally things like this are just glossed over.  But here are some of the comments on ABC News blog post about his very unpleasant comments that I would like to see him hang from a tree.

I just want to thank this man for tellingit like it is. I have read dozens of articles where the t-party calls Blacks everything under the sun – even says they ae better off during slavery.

May I see these articles? 

Why is it unfair to call a racist a racist?
I’m afraid I have to agree with congressman Carson. I’m a democrat who certainly has had issues with republican presidents but there was no hate involved. I think they all , including Richard Nixon were good men who loved their country.

This thing with the tea party is more visceral, they not only criticize president Obamas policies but attack him personnally. The incident in front of the Congress where tea partiers were spitting on and calling black congressmen names was a indication where some of them were coming from.

Umm, I seem to remember some pretty horrible things being said about President Bush.  Not to say that justifies it, but the truth is that is how politics works in this country. 

I really think they are racist, but beacuse of todays political correctness, they are afraid to show their true feelings.

Yes, that is it I am worried about political correctness. 

The KKK is alive and well. Tea party republican governors are reviving Jim Crow Laws, attacking workers unions, and doing all they can to keep unemployment up and economic growth down. If you support tea party you support racism. Pure and simple

It is sad to think where we would be today if republicans had not fought the president at every step. He is the only president we ever had willing to make real changes and listen to people. The only one who really cares about people and has the brains to make this country prosper. It is appalling that the republicans are destroying the country in a lame attempt to discredit him, fox news openly admits it, and laughs about it.

First, has the person ever watched Fox News?  I would say probably not.  Second, for the first two years in office he had a solid majority.  He did not need on single republican vote to pass anything.  Next!!

Yes, Mc Cain is not afraid of the fanatics. How many American soldiers died because of the tea party? The tea party attack on congress and resulting market crash showed the world how weak congress was. Enabling violence against our soldiers. It is no coincidence that the violence escalated to a fever pitch. That is the biggest reason I cannot stand tea party. I would love to have one of you fanatics mouth off to my face. Bring it on traitors. You are going down.

President Obama, here is your chance to stand up and prove that you want to rid the political arena of this crap.  Grow a spine and publicly denounce this type of rhetoric.  It is dangerous and counterproductive.

Some Notes from the Peanut Gallery

I have not been able to pay as close attention to the debt limit crisis as I normally would.  Life has gotten in the way.  Today I was trying to do some reading to see what I missed.  Not all that much really, they seem to be in the same place they were a few weeks ago.  Just closer to date of "doom" according to the left.

I did across an article about the Tea Party influence in this debate.  The article is about what one would expect on CNN.  But I always find the comments to be the best part.  I came across this one:

I have a few questions. 1. Since when did this country need a "Super Congress" to know the difference between spending within your means and spending out of control! ? 2. Since when did the "Tea Potty" think they were "The peoples Potty"? 3. And last but not least, just what makes the wealthiest so high and mighty that they, can't or won't, support the country that made them wealthy? Can the 2 seperate Republican enities explain these?

Just exactly what country are they serving? I know it can not be America! They are traitors, liers, and they call themselves faith based. These biggots are self serving with NO intentions to serve this country but only those outside of the lawmakers rhelm to make themselves more rich off the working peoples back. What a disgusting group of trash to represent this Country!

OK, 1. Apparently Congress does need someone or something to explain living within your means.  They have not been doing it for decades.  2. The Tea Party is mainly a group of everyday citizens saying they have had enough.  I have never been paid to go to any protest.  I have never been given money to get there, everything that I have done has been taking time off from work (I only work part time so it is easier for me) and getting myself to DC on my own.  Granted I don't live far so there is not much money involved here.  Really just parking and gas for me.  3. The wealthiest of Americans do pay the vast majority of the bills in this country.  I don't know what it will take to get the people on the left to accept that.  Almost half of the people in this country pay no income tax at all.  They pay payroll taxes and end up with a refund at the end of the year.  Who do you think is putting money into the treasury?  Do you think the money comes from the tooth fairy?  It is not unreasonable to demand that congress be responsible with our money.  Presently they are not.  We don't live within our means and that is the reason for the tea party. 

The vast majority of people I know that are involved in the tea party are middle class people who struggle with money issues.  Just like the majority of Americans.  I know of one who has told me on several occasions she really struggles with money every month.  Things are tight for her and her husband.  I know people in the tea party who are single and renters.  I know people who are just starting out in their lives.  Only out of college a few years.  I know several people who are in the medical field and what drove them to the tea party was Obamacare.  They know what is going to happen to our medical care in this country when this fully takes hold.  (If is more like it).  I know some military people who have defended this country for a small amount of money who are really worried about the direction we are going in.  One of which has spent time in a war zone.  His voice has the right to be heard. 

Yeah I agree that far too many people in congress make themselves rich off the tax payer.  You should be in the tea party not calling them racists.  We believe that too. 

Open your eyes to what is happening in this country and then maybe you can get your head out of your ass long enough to realize that Tea Party is trying to stop this country from spending more on interest than it does on education every year.  You are against fighting for that?  But, I am the stupid one?  Yeah, you jerk, we spend more on interest every year than we do to educate our young.

This seminar will provide you with an action plan that you can implement. Our goal is to build a coalition of tea party leaders, activists and educators that can work together to be more effective.

Contest Guidelines



1. Contestants must be U.S. citizens or lawful U.S. residents under the age of 30 on July 4, 2011 who reside in Virginia, the District of Columbia, or Maryland. Active duty military legally domiciled in Virginia, D.C., and Maryland are also eligible.

2. There is no entry fee.

3. Submit one entry of 250 words or less in English on "What My Freedom Means to Me" no later than June 24, 2011 to contest@alexandriateaparty.com. Your entry must be an original work (not plagiarized) which has not previously appeared in any medium. Entries that exceed the prescribed length will not be considered.

4. Please provide the following attestation in your email - I hereby certify that I am a U.S. citizen or lawful resident, that I reside in --- [fill in D.C., Maryland, or Virginia], that I will be --- [fill-in] years of age on July 4, 2011, and that I am the sole author of this submission.

5. Entries will be judged primarily on the strength of the content. (However, poor grammar, punctuation, or spelling will not help your chances.) Any quotations or copyrighted material used in the essay must be properly identified in the text (no footnotes).

7. Results are in the sole discretion of the Alexandria Tea Party.

Winners will be announced and their entries read at the Alexandria Tea Party 4th of July event. Winners not present will be notified by email. Winning entries may be posted to ATP's website and used for other Alexandria Tea Party purposes, identified by first name, age, and jurisdiction only (DC/MD/VA). ATP may seek permission from the contestant if other attribution is desired.
