Sales Taxes for Thee, Not For Me

Senator John Kerry and his wife Teresa have bought a new yacht that they have named Isabel.  The ship was built in New Zealand and designed by a company based in Rhode Island.

Isabel - Kerry’s luxe, 76-foot New Zealand-built Friendship sloop with an Edwardian-style, glossy varnished teak interior, two VIP main cabins and a pilothouse fitted with a wet bar and cold wine storage - was designed by Rhode Island boat designer Ted Fontaine.

The Kerry's will be docking the ship in Rhode Island instead of Nantucket, where they summer.  Why, you may ask?  Well it seems that back in 1993 Rhode Island rescinded the luxury sales tax on yachts.  By keeping his expensive toy in Rhode Island instead of in mooring it in Massachusetts he is saving $437,500 in sales tax and around $70,000 per year in excise taxes.

It seems that Kerry is perfectly fine in voting for new taxes for thee, but finds ways to avoid paying them for "me".  Kerry's chief of staff denies that the ship is being moored in Rhode Island to avoid the taxes.  Because after all it makes perfect sense to moor your ship in Rhode Island when your home is in Nantucket.

Libs don't really believe in higher taxes, they just want more power. If they really believed in higher taxes, they'd voluntarily send extra money to the treasury.
