Quote of the Day - Andre Carson Edition

“I stand on the truth of what I spoke, my intentions weren’t to hurt anyone or any group. I wanted to speak to the issues that concern me and the philosophical issues that concern me as it relates to certain leadership within the tea party organization, not the entire tea party, but certain elements that have concerned me deeply and for quite some time that I think should really re-evaluate what it means to be an American and we shouldn’t go along the path of taking America back to the ‘good old days’ because those days were not good for everyone.”
Carson to CNN on his statement:

“some of them in Congress right now of this tea party movement would love to see you and me ... hanging on a tree.”

Phew, what a relief.  We are all not racists and wannabe murders, just some of us.  Congressman Carson, when you get your list of names together along with the some proof of these allegations, please send it along as I would like to disassociate with these people too.

Should I be suing his ass for libel?

Sent to my Congressman (Sensenbrenner): I am appalled not only at the comments from Rep. Andre Carson (“some of them in Congress right now of this tea party movement would love to see you and me ... hanging on a tree.”), but also by the failure of the Republican majority to not only defend those whom he has slandered, but also to call for sanctions up to and including his resignation. Can you imagine the response had a white Congressman slandered the Congressional Black Caucus in such a way?

The comments from Carson and further comments from Rep. Jackson and others demand a strong response. I suggest if the Congressional Republicans are too afraid to take action, it will be necessary to find new representation.

I respectfully have to disagree with you. This comment doesn't rise to being thrown out of congress. He has a first amendment right just like I do. His district voted him in, and it is up to them to get him out after the next election.

Also I want him out talking more; independents need to hear this kind of thing. This is the new democratic party. Shining the light is the best thing we can do.

We will agree to disagree on this. It is slander, plain and simple. Further, if say, my Senator Ron Johnson said "The Congressional Black Caucus wants Blacks to rise up and kill 'whitey'" would there not be an tremendous outcry for his resignation?

Maybe there would be, but it wouldn't make any more right. People have the right to talk in this country, doesn't mean we are going to like it. He has proven himself to be a fool, it is now up to his district to decide if he went too far or not.

In order for it be legally slander you would have to prove that you have been hurt by it. You won't be able to, because most people realize it for the stupidity that it is. For those who agree with him, they believed it before he said it.
