Portrait of a Jack Ass - Congressman Grayson

So, I am standing away from the crowd at one point talking on the phone trying to guide a friend to my location.  I am not moving at all, simply standing and talking on the phone.  Congressman Grayson is walking to get to the protesters.  Instead of moving a little to the left or the right, he just kept moving forward.  It didn't seem to matter to him that I was standing there.

Now, in hindsight I should have stayed right where I was, but I did move.  Had I not, this boorish man would have just mowed me down or something.  He is surrounded by staff and Capitol police officers.  He makes his way down to the lawn with the protestors and holds a press conference.  Again, a complete ass.

Portrait of a Jack Ass - Rev. Jackson Taunting Protesters

So, tonight I went down to the Capitol. It was really crazy. It was a much smaller crowd than yesterday, but what we lacked in numbers, we more than made up for in enthusiasm. There were pro reform people there as well. For the most part, they left us alone. At point during the night Rev. Jesse Jackson made an appearance.

Here was there to gloat, no other reason. He had nothing to add to anything. Apparently he was there for a "meeting", where he was standing was actually blocked off and we were not allowed there. Why he, a private citizen, was allowed to be there is beyond me.

But in any event, he is an ass. Anyone who reads my blog regularly knows, I don't normally swear or call people names, but in this case, he deserves it.

Some Photos of the Day - Kill The Bill Rally March 20

There is a immigration rally tomorrow on the mall.  Here are the rows of porto-potties for that rally.  There were none at the Capitol building for us.

We had many people coming out and taking pictures of us

Fort Bend is in Texas.  He came a looong way

No, you did not.

It is a little hard to see, but at the top of the steps is John Conyers.  He came out for a visit.  This was as close as he would get.  We invited him down, but he didn't want to come.

I was only there for the candlelight vigil, it was a nice evening.  So I missed all the speakers and most of the crowd.  By the time I got there, only about a few thousand people were left.

I have since heard there was some not so nice behavior today.  Not cool.  If we want to say that we are better than the progressives/liberals/dems than we need to behave that way.  One of the guards at the Rayburn building told me that a congressman was spit on, yuck.  I was not sure that he was serious, but it was on the news, so I guess it did happen.

We were outside when they were trying to work through things in the rules committee, we were making so much noise that they had to stop.

Congressman King has asked that people return at 11am on Sunday if possible.

And The Billboards Keep Coming - President Carter Billboard

There can't be much doubt that small business owners are not liking this administration very much.  First was the "Miss Me Yet" with President Bush, then came the "Remember Real Hope and Change" with President Reagan, and now this:

Poor Jimmy, or maybe not.  I suppose this is good news for him.  The only thing I know for sure, it isn't good news for Americans.

These things are not cheap, so it amazing that someone is putting these up.  As you can see, this one is in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Update On Kill the Bill Rally - March 20

Updated Location for Saturday Code Red Rally

The location for the Rally has been changed to the West Lawn of the Capitol. The expected size of the event has grown, thereby necessitating this change!

Some people are also planning to meet at 10am to visit Congressional offices; however, I know on previous rally days on Saturdays, most Congressional offices have been closed. Further, it looks like many of the Congressmen have purposefully been doing everything in their power to ignore the people; so I am skeptical that any of the swing offices will be open. Nonetheless, if you have the time; you are free to see if anyone is in on Saturday.

The main rally starts at noon and the candlelight vigil starts at 6 (which seems early for candlelight to me, but I didn't pick the time). I believe the vigil will be in the Upper Senate Park, but I have not seen an official statement on this.

Conservative Girl Adventures - Obama Rally George Mason University UPDATES

Today, the president was starting his victory lap on the healthcare bill.  A little early I know, but the President's ego is the size of all outdoors, so why not?  The crowd was mainly young, as it took place on a college campus.

For those who are not aware, George Mason is a pretty liberal university.  Big shocker I know!!  I will tell you, for anyone who knows history they will know that George Mason would be rolling over in his grave if he were aware of what the school that is his namesake has become.  I am sure that he is certainly spinning with a president as liberal as the one who spoke there today.

I met a very nice young couple, Allen and Grace, both Obama voters.  Allen grew up in the same area of CT that I did, so we talked a bit about that.  Allen is in favor healthcare reform, but it didn't seem to me that he is very jazzed at how it is happening, nor did he seem to feel that it will actually work.  Grace was wearing a t-shirt with the date of  Bush's last day in office.  Allen told me that his family are liberal and he is as well.  Although, I get this feeling he is more of a left leaning centerist.  He comes about his views on healthcare reform honestly, as his family went through a period of not having insurance, his father had a relatively minor medical problem that took the family many years to pay off.

Allen is a patriot kind of guy, he wants to go work for the government at the NSA or some other type of national security kind of way.  He is currently looking for a co-op position that will allow him to finish school and work, then give him a full time position once he graduates.  We had a very nice chat.

So, after waiting in line for an hour or so, we get let into the building.  The rally was in The Patriot Center, ironically enough.  It holds 10,000 people - it was not even half full.  Which is very surprising considering it was on a very liberal college campus, I also live in a very liberal area.

The morning started out with the pledge of alligence, the National Anthem, and a prayer.  The prayer was something to hear, let me tell you.  For those who were not sure what Glen Beck meant when he said stay away from any place of worship that talks about "social justice", this woman is what he meant.  Her entire prayer (if one could call it that) was about social justice.  If anyone can't figure out how people with views like Obama and Pelosi can have so little problems with passing laws that allow anyone at anytime have an abortion and still call themselves people of faith just need to listen to this woman.  It was all about how the scripture says that we need to take care of the needy and the helpless.  Which is completely true, but no where in the bible does it say that we are supposed to give to the government to do those acts of charity for us.  We are supposed to do that ourselves.  But, this woman certainly believes that the government is supposed to. She quoted Micah as her example.

The president comes out and the crowd goes wild, chanting YES WE CAN.  I of course was totally surrounded by Obama supporters.  Again, that is daily life in Northern Virginia; a sea of blue.  The president started out talking about the vote on Sunday, how historic it was going to be, blah, blah, blah.  He then went into the same old story of that woman in Ohio.  You know the one, the woman who is getting top notch care, that she will not be charged for.  Yet, again he left out that part.

He then went into what "people" were saying that wasn't true about the bill.  I am assuming when he said "people" he was referring to me and people like me; conservatives.  He stood up there an lied.  Again, another shocker.  What was I expecting?  He talked about how he wasn't going to be killing granny, nor would they be adding to the defict.

He also went into this long thing about the "change" he has brought to Washington.  Wait for it, he actually had the nerve to say that he wasn't governing by the wims of special interests.  I could hardly contain myself.  There was no point in me yelling out, as by this point one other person had been forcibly removed for stating some facts.  I guess it was in his best interests that he was removed as he was being booed and people were pointing at him.

Another thing that I found amazing, was that he actually said this had nothing to do with his presidency, it was all for us.  Yeah, you are the man behind the curtain in The Wizard of Oz, don't believe your eyes, just look over here at what I am showing you.

Something that Northern Virginia has a great deal:
Unions
College Students
Liberal Dems

and he still couldn't fill 10,000 seats.  He is losing his mojo.  What a shame, so sad :{

You can't really make it out, but all the upper level seats were empty, and three entire sections had only a couple of people in them.

Why these people were wearing tuxedos, I couldn't tell you.

This is the "heckler" being removed

This is the social justice prayer lady.

Sorry that the pics didn't come out better, but it was hard with all the overhead lights.

Aah, gotta love the media.  WashPo is reporting that 8,000 people were at the rally.  That is simply not possible; I am not good at estimating crowds, but I know what I saw.  Four entire sections had no one.  Not one single section was seated to the top.  Two other sections were only about 1/2 full.  The arena only holds 10,000.  With that many empty seats, there couldn't have been 8,000 in attendance.

A Little Giggle For You

Tea Party Kill The Bill - Rally on March 20

Congressman Steve King is hosting another tea party on Saturday.  This is more than likely our last chance to change some minds as the vote is schedule for Sunday.

Speaker Pelosi is not allowing her members to go home over the weekend.  Hmm, wonder why?

John Voight, one of the few openly conservative actors, has joined in and extended an invitation through his facebook page:

I am calling to all of you freedom-loving Americans to come once again to Washington D.C. to gather on the Capitol steps on Saturday, at 12 o’clock noon.

We must come by the thousands.

Speaker Pelosi will stop at nothing to fulfill her corrupt conquests. She will bring all of the corrupt ACORN liars to try to bully all the Democrats that may be having pangs of guilt knowing quite surely what their votes can and will do. If they’re bullied into saying “yes,” it will destroy America.

Be there in Washington DC at 12 noon EST so we can give all the Democrats who know what the end result will be the courage to say: “No, do not pass this destructive bill.”

I’ll see you there.

Congressman Tom Perriello - A Profile in Courage?

Tom Perriello, the congressman from the Virginia 5th, said:

"if you don't tie our hands, we will keep stealing"

He is from a traditionally republican district, that went to McCain in the presidental election in 08.  It was considered one of the biggest upsets of the night.  He is an attorney that helped get rid of Liberian dictator Charles Taylor.  He has a record of helping promote democracy around the world.  One would think that would be the reason why he is thinking that our federal government has become too powerful and is violating the constitution; the foundation of ours.

Now, he did vote for the original house bill, but I believe he will be voting no on the senate bill.

We will have to wait and see how much courage he really has, but at least it is a start.

Slaughter Rule Vote

The Republicans forced a floor vote today in regards to the Slaughter Rule.

Some points of interest:

Jason Altmire, PA-D, who will not committ to anything at this point voted no to disallow the use of the Slaughter Rule.  I think this speaks volumes of where he really stands.  He just doesn't have the courage to say so.  Grow a spine Altmire.

The upmost in hypocrisy I think comes from Stephen Lynch of MA and Luis Gutierrez of Il, who are publicly saying they are against the bill.  This will allow them the wiggle room of saying they were against the senate bill and all of it's bribery, yet still vote for it.  They have clearly drunk the kool-aid that the American public is stupid enough to buy that.

Democrat Yes votes:

Virginia Rep. Tom Perriello, who voted for the House bill, voted against party leaders.

Perriello was joined by fellow "yes" votes Michael Arcuri of New York, Kathy Dahlkemper of Pennsylvania and Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona. Michigan Rep. Bart Stupak, who voted for the first House bill also, voted against his leadership, along with Pennsylvania Rep. Chris Carney and Illinois Reps. Jerry Costello and Daniel Lipinski. Tennessee Rep. Jim Cooper and Maine Rep. Mike Michaud also joined the Democrats voting with Republicans.

Come Dancing - Let the Madness Begin

Today is the start of the NCAA Basketball tourney.  One of my favorite sporting events of the year.

Old Dominion University beat Notre Dame (I picked this on my bracket, yeah)
51-50

It took BYU double overtime but they did indeed defeat Florida.  Florida played a great game, but just ran out of steam at the end.
99-92 2OT

Villanova needed overtime to overcome 15 seeded Robert Murray State.  Not a good sign for the #2 seed I would say.
73-70 OT

Murray State pulled off a big upset today.  They took on #4 seed  Vanderbilt.  Murray State has been very close to pulling off upsets in the past, today they got the cigar.  Good for them, but I would venture to say that many brackets are none too pleased with this development.  We will see how far this Cinderella will go.
66-65

Kansas State showed why they are a #2 seed with an easy victory over North Texas.
82-62

Butler had a pretty easy win over UTEP
77-59

Senate Porkers

Many things are flying under the radar as we pay attention to the healthcare debate that is currently in the house.  One of these is the fact that Sen. DeMint put forth a bill that would ban earmarks for one year in all legislation.  We are in major debt and it just keeps getting worse.  The least our government should do is to have an open and transparent process of where the money is going, not sticking in earmarks at the last minute, which means many senators don't even know what they are voting on nor is there any debate on if the money should be spent on that particular thing.  Here is how the vote went:

Senate Vote On 1-Year Earmark Moratorium

Yes = Supported Earmark Ban

No = Opposed Earmark Ban

More Bad News for Romneycare - Something to Look Forward to (Not)

Romneycare is one of the few models we have to look at as a guide to Obamacare.  More results are in, and they aren't good.

Per capita spending is 27% higher than the national average

Massachusetts Medical Society has stated that there is a "critical shortage" of primary care doctors

56% of internists will no longer be accepting new patients

If you are able to find a doctor, the average wait time is 44 days.  (I have never waited 44 days to see any doctor, except as all women know, your gynocologist)

Emergency room visits have increased 7% between 05 and 07

More than 50% of those visits were not emergencies

75% of the major insurance carriers in the state had operating losses for 2009

More than 50% of the people who are newly insuranced, pay nothing for the coverage.  The system was set up that everyone would pay something towards the costs.

The state mandates for insurance coverage cost more than $1 billion per year.  People think that our rising costs are due to lack of government oversight, but this study proves the rising costs are due, at least in part, by the government oversight

Studies in the state have found that having insurance doesn't give you access to healthcare, having access to doctor is what gives you healthcare:
"Just because you have insurance doesn't mean there's a [primary care] physician who can see you."
American College of Emergency Physicans

I think that Romney can kiss any chance of the GOP nomination good-bye, especially when he keeps sticking up for this program.

Liberal Logic - Teacher Unions Edition

I was reading a post by a fellow blogger who is a conservative and a public school teacher.  She referenced an article on Pajamas Media.  The article is about a comment that was made by President Obama in regards to the Rhode Island firing the entire staff of a public school that has been failing for years.  President Obama's comment seemed to back the move and this of course is upsetting the unions.  The article itself was interesting, but one of the comments is what really caught my attention:

11. james:

I am so disgusted by all this teacher bashing! These are our best and brightest, and they have dedicated themselves to serving our children. Has the author of this article have no shame? I know that we have some problems with some of our schools, but mass firings and “union breaking” is never the answer. Here’s a few simple steps we can take to improve education now:

1. Raise teacher pay by at least 15-20%. That will attract more talent.

2. Grant teachers a better benefit package than most currectly enjoy. There’s no reason why people who have dedicated their lives to children cannot have 100% of their health care (families included) paid for. I’ve also endorsed a special retirement fund for teachers that the Federal govt can invest in. Possibly an additional $300 monthly, per teacher, into a special IRA account. Of course, we’ll need strict government over-sight and accountability of such a fund.

3. More time off. The fact of the matter is that most teachers are over-worked and under-paid. End the traditional school year in early to mid-May. That will give teachers a well-deserved extra month or so to re-charge their batteries. Teaching children is a very difficult job, especially when the classroom is filled with inner-city children from broken homes (i.e. the Newark and D.C. school systems).

4. More administrators to help teachers. I always advocated a “teacher first” policy, in the sense that the “first” employee of any school should be the teacher. If a teacher needs help, each should have their own administrator at their beck and call. Admimistrators should be paid well ($65,000+ yearly), but not included in the special teacher retirement fund.

5. Finally, we should institute a “six-month” tenure called for by Medea Benjamin. Once a teacher has been employed full-time for six months, automatic tenure should set in. This will show that we are dedicated to our teachers, which will entice more productivity.

With these simple changes, we can fix our school systems within 5 years, save money and contribute to the fight on racism and global warming. It will just take some courage.

Where to begin.....
Contribute to the fight on racism...I am not trying to say that racism doesn't exist, but what exactly should tax payer money be doing to fight racism?

Have you read all the information about the scandals around the data for global warming?  The science is far from settled.

Six month tenure?  You get a job for life after working for six months!!!  What sort of craziness is this thought process?  A teacher (who could be as young as 22 with no job experience) should be allowed to never be fired before they even have finished one school year of teaching simply based on the fact that they have chosen an admirable profession?  What kind of sense does this make?

Ending the school year in mid May.  Now, I have never taught school and I am sure that it is a stressful job.  But so is being a doctor, a nurse, a police officer, a social worker, heck even when I was working in the direct mail fundraising field I was stressed out, after all I had meet to constant deadlines. Working in a retail store is a very stressful job; should they get three and half months paid time off every year as well?

You want the government to have strict oversight of an additional IRA fund?  They had strict control over Social Security, how has that worked out?

An administrator at your beck and call.  Does every teacher get their own administrator, or do they have several teachers?  If so, how they would be at the "beck and call" if they have more than one?  One of these teachers may have to wait a half hour.  I don't think James would find that half hour wait acceptable.

I am in no way saying that teachers don't deserve gratitude, as they do.  James is correct that it is a difficult job, that doesn't mean that they should never be fired if they do a bad job.  Look at the teacher who writes loser on the top of papers he is grading.  I am sorry, James but this man doesn't deserve to keep his job especially since he has been talked to about this previously.  He thinks it is ok to call 6th graders losers.  It is not ok.

Teachers salaries are not that terrible.  I am not saying that they shouldn't be better, but in Virginia the average salary is almost $44,000 and it is higher in Northern Virginia, where costs of living are higher.  You will never get rich being a teacher, but you can live on $44,000.  The median income in Virginia is $46,055.

Conservative Girl Adventures - Progressive Activists Need a Roomate

I have a girl friend that is going through a divorce. She will really be struggling to keep her townhouse on her own, so she has decided to get a roommate so she has extra money every month. She was reading some ads on Craig's List just to get an idea of what other people were saying. She came across an ad from progressive activists that need a roommate. She and I decided to take this chance to see what was up, as they made a real big deal about the "progressive activists" part of the ad.

So we go to the house that they are renting. It was a riot. Now, I have no problem with them being activists as they are Americans and have constitutional rights just like I do. They are young, early to mid twenties I would say and they all met in college and became politically active. They went to Columbia; at hot bed of liberal thinking. They decided to move here after college so they could be more politically active, one actually works on the hill; but he wouldn't say for whom.

The house is in a nice area. We turn onto the street and immediately see signs showing support of the President. This is not unusual in this part of Virginia as it is a very liberal area; except for the fact the election was over 18 months ago. I would think that most people have removed their signs by now. I have long since taken down my McDonnell for Governor sign that I had up and he has only been in office for two months.

We get into the house and there are pictures of progressive heroes EVERYWHERE! They have a huge poster of Che in the living room. But, what was even scarier than the poster itself was the fact that under the poster is a side table that had candles on it. Now, it may very well not be related, but it was odd to say the least. It took every ounce of self control I had not to ask if they prayed in front of the poster every night before going to bed. I did ask if they had read his diaries, and they said no, they have seen the movie though. Another Shocker, having hero worship of someone that they don't fully understand was a murderer.

We got to talking; it seemed to me that they were trying to get the political slant of the person who would move in. One of them works in the direct mail fundraising field; a field that I worked in for a long time so I am very familiar. I am aware of where she works, and they do work for progressive non profits. Most of which are environmental organizations, but they also do work for Planned Parenthood. I asked her if she was a fan of Sanger and she said of course. I have to wonder if they know that she used to speak at KKK rallies, and her real purpose was to get rid of "undesirables" as one of the people who lived there is a minority.

I also tried to read the all the literature that they had laying around, but I couldn't really do it without drawing too much attention. They had a great deal about health care; they are fans of a single payer system. I also noticed that they are planning on showing up at the rally at the Capitol on Tuesday morning. They also must have attended the Coffee Party events that happened here in Virginia yesterday. The signs were not nearly as inventive as what I have seen at the Tea Parties.

It probably wasn't nice wasting their time in this way, but I couldn't resist the temptation. I had to go and take a look. My friend is much more liberal than I, but they went too far even for her. It was a funny experience that I thought I would share. I am going to look for them on Tuesday and say hello. I wish I could have taken pictures, but I didn't want to be forcibly removed if they found out that I am a conservative blogger.  I am going to print out some information on Sanger and Che for them, I think they should know who these people really are.  If they still choose to burn candles in front of them, then so be it.  That is their choice.
