Today is the official kick off the Fire Pelosi Bus tour. The first event was held in DC near the RNC headquarters. That I was not able to get to, but I did make it to the first "official" candidate stop. Keith Fimian is running the in VA 11th against a true blue progressive candidate.
I would say about 50 people showed up, and we were quite lively. We did some sign waving while waiting for the bus to arrive. Northern Virginia isn't exactly known for it's conservative population, so the reaction from the cars was interesting. We did get a few rude hand gestures, but we got many more honks and thumbs up!! So that is a postive sign for Keith to oust Connolly.
CNN's John King was in attendance. I am waiting for the report, but we will see what he has to say.
I did take a video of both speeches, but I am not having much luck getting them uploaded.
In my opinion, there was no good choice in the Delaware Senate Primary. But, O'Donnell has won the nomination and Cap and Tax supporter Mike Castle's long over due pink slip has been delivered. But, these below videos are going to give MSNBC a great deal of fodder over the next 45 days.
Reid was talking at the Clean Energy Summit. Some protesters gathered about 100 yards away, and Reid decided to go out and speak with him. I guess that was too far for him and his aides to walk. Instead they showed up in SUV's.
Jon David appeared at the DC 9/12 March. You can down load the song on itunes and a portion of the proceeds goes to Ride 2 Recovery, which helps injured servicemen.
Mission of R2R
To improve the health and wellness of injured veterans by providing a life changing experience that can impact their lives forever.
"Getting together in groups and the resulting social connection is the royal road to recovery for combat veterans with psychological injuries", Dr. Jonathan Shay (PTSD expert and VA psychiatrist). Quoted in NY Times 1/2008
Program
R2R supports Spinning® Recovery Labs and outdoor cycling programs at Military and VA locations around the U.S. to help injured veterans overcome obstacles they face. Cycling is an important part of the recovery and rehabilitation program for two reasons:
1.Cycling is an activity that almost all patients with mental and physical disabilities can participate.
2.Participation in the Ride 2 Recovery Program helps speed up the recovery and rehabilitation process.
Program provides Regional Training Clinics and Morale/Fundraising Events
Military and VA Gov’t will receive special discounted pricing on best-in-class Spinners and Recumbent
Bikes by Star Trac, road bikes by R2R, and specially adapted bikes by Alternative Vehicles. For all equipment sold, Companies will make a donation to R2R to expand the cycling programs in military and VA locations across the US
Morale, Welfare Benefits
The R2R Cycling program strengthens the body. It can reduce the experience of stress, depression, and anxiety. Dozens of scientific studies have demonstrated the relationship between exercise and mood. Exercise promotes arousal and relaxation, and improves quality of sleep. These conditions help the body recover from the stress response. The program also has many health benefits, including overall physical fitness.
I have zero tolerance for truthers. This is unacceptable. He cannot say that he is a moderate and believe that President Bush murdered three thousand Americans for oil or whatever else the truthers think. In this case, I guess he would just be protecting Usama bin Laden. One very good example of why I can't stand the "truthers" they had the nerve to show up at the memorial service for the victims of 9/11 at the Washington Memorial on Saturday. For the sake of argument lets say they are correct, it doesn't change the fact that three thousand people were brutally murdered. They and their families deserve to be treated with respect and dignity no matter who was responsible. They certainly didn't deserve what happened to them on that fateful day.
This Saturday is Read the Constitution Day. The goal is get people together to read the entire Constitution out loud. The entire reading should take about an hour, when including the preamble and all the amendments.
There will be events held all over the country, some in private homes and others out in the public square.
We have not quite figured out where we will be holding ours, but we will be out on Saturday.
My personal belief is that if we don't understand what our rights are, we won't realize that they are being taken away by a government that has more power than ever intended by the framers.
I sometimes read this blog by a Constitutional Attorney. I would say that he is left of center. The people who comment on his blog are much more to the left than he appears to be. They don't like it when he takes a more "conservative" approach to a certain topic. From what I can gather most of the people who regulary comment also believe that our rights are being usurped, especially by an executive branch that has become way too powerful and the Congress is aiding in increasing that power. So, there is hope that we can get our country back to the principles on which is founded on.
If you want to find a location near you, go here. If you don't find one, invite your neighbors, it could be fun.
The day started out rainy and with a bit of a chill in the air. The crowd was much smaller this year, since I am not good at estimating crowd sizes, I won't even hazard a guess. But, Freedom Works did something interesting, we were asked to either call or text to a number that would give them a count. Now, I know even that will not be accurate as the people who were sitting next to me only called once and there was five of them.
We had our share of "counter-protesters" again this year, but I saw far fewer of them this year as well. One difference was that I was sitting much closer to the stage this year so I did much less crowd wandering this year over last year. Some of the counter protesters were actually social conservatives. That's right. They are unhappy that we are not dealing with abortion or gay marriage in the tea party community. I am not that conservative when it comes to some of the more social issues. I am with the majority of Americans on abortion, personally against but do not feel that making it illegal is the answer. But, I do fall firmly in the conservative camp on the gay marriage issue. But, again, I realize that it will not only happen in this country, it will happen in my lifetime. But for these particular social conservatives, they are very upset that these issues are not being addresses by the tea party. But, maybe I can clear it up for you, the tea party is made up of fiscal conservatives and even some moderates, who are outraged at the out-of-control spending spree our federal government has been on.
I did see one of the many progressive counter protesters today. He was dressed in a very bizarre outfit; a plaid button up shirt with the sleeves cut out that he tied at his waste, and VERY short jean cut off shorts carrying a sign that said something along the lines of "Kick the Gay Foreigner Out of Office". I don't remember exactly what it said, but along those lines. The tea party was having none of it, he was found pretty quickly and surrounded by people with signs that read "He is NOT with us".
Of course the LaRouche crazies were out in force. They have shown up at every rally I have been to. This is where much of the media's Hitler references come from. They just omit the part about LaRouche followers being far left dems, that even most dems won't claim.
The speakers today mainly consisted of tea party leaders from around the country. We did hear from Congressman Mike Pence and Ken Cuccinelli. I will be the first to admit that I was very wrong about AG Cuccinelli. I was not happy when he got the nomination for AG. But, he has been amazing since taking office in January.
Breitbart was out and about in the crowd meeting people and getting his photo taken probably a zillion times. He didn't seem to mind it all. I did not get a chance to go up and meet him, I had to more or less stay in place today, so my pictures are much fewer and I didn't get to talk to as many people as I did last year. I also twisted my knee in a weird way this morning on the train, so it kinda hurts.
One thing that I found very strange was the fact that they didn't close any of the roads around the Capitol. The didn't even close off Pennsylvania Ave when we marched down it. We had traffic running along side of us. I don't know if that was a permit issue or what, but it seemed very strange to me. Last year the entire road was closed as well as the roads around the Capitol, it could be that they knew the number would be smaller this year.
Again, I met people from all over. I even saw a group that flew in from Hawaii. I didn't get a chance to go and speak to them, as they were on the other side of the street that wasn't closed off, so it was too difficult for me to get to the other side of Freedom Plaza.
I personally found a few of the signs to be wildly inapporiate. One said something along the lines of "Be if by ballott or by bullet" I actually told the guy that it wasn't not a good idea to let the media see a sign that says that. Nor, do I think it was smart to put something like that in writing. He just gave me a look and walked away. Although, I saw almost no media today at all, or should I say mainstream media. Newsbusters, Right and Black, and other conservative outlets were there, but I saw one photographer from the AP and that was it. I got home in time for the local news, and they didn't mention it at all. I guess it never it happened!!!
Here are some additional photos for you: These are some of my favorites. Although, the one that I loved the most I didn't get a picture of. It said "Put Down Your Golf Clubs and Pick up The Constitution" I didn't have my camera with my when I saw it, and then I couldn't find the guy again. I hope you enjoy these.
You may remember Tito "The Builder" Munoz from the McCain Campaign. He is local Northern Virginian like me, and is very involved in the tea party movement along with this wife Deborah. Both very nice people. He lit.it.up
Congresswoman Johnson's excuses explanations are just not adding up. She has repeately told the press that she had no personal involvement in the scholarships that was given to members of her family and her staff's family. Documents have surfaced with her signature on them that clearly show that simply isn't the case.
The rules of almost all scholarships is that the money goes directly to the school, not to the student. But not in the cases of her grandchildren. She personally sent a letter asking that the money be sent to her grandson's and grand nephews. The letters are also dated stamped from her Dallas office fax machine.
"I work pretty hard. We have a lot to do. And it really has not gotten all of my attention, I regret to say. It's a minor part of what we do on a daily basis," she said, adding that "I have not dwelled on trying to figure out a way to give my grandchildren $1,000 a year. ... I have a lot of things to do."
Basically she is saying she is so busy that she doesn't pay attention to pesky little details like scholarship money, but the letters show that simply isn't the case.
This is just one more case of public officials thinking that they are indeed above the law. Our government officials treat the average American hard-earned tax dollars as a personal ATM. This is a woman that makes 175K per year. She couldn't afford to help out her grandchildren go to college?
During the time of the 9/11 aftermath, I worked with a young woman who was very dedicated to charitable causes. One of the causes she helped out with was The Red Cross. If you remember, The Red Cross was one of the charitable organizations that collected money for 9/11. A few months after the attack The Red Cross was in the news because they had said they wanted to use some of the money for additional disasters. She and I totally disagreed on this. I said at the time that money needed to be saved because we had no idea what was going to happen to the workers that were working at the site, or to the people who lived in that neighborhood. They may have long term health problems and mental health problems and would need that money for their families and for the medical expenses.
Like most things the media forgets about it and moves on to other things. We should be looking into this again.
If she thinks that liberals are disappointed, how does she think the rest of the country feels?
Several of us were sitting around over the holiday weekend, enjoying a lovely bottle of wine at sunset ... and discussing the condition of our country. Which led us to the president. Which led us to our mutually shared disappointment in him.
We are all liberals, we all supported Obama, and we all remember how emotionally uplifted and hopeful we felt when he was elected.
“But he was a brilliant orator,” another friend offered. “He went right for the heart, and he did it so well.”
Yes, but now ...
We all agreed that we felt betrayed. We’d expected so much; we’d believed greatness was ahead of us, leading us, guiding us into the future. Maybe we did fall in love too fast, and the person we thought was a godsend didn’t stay for breakfast and never called again.
While I have always disagreed with the building of the mosque, I have been supportive of the constitutional rights to do so. I was happy to see that the argument against the mosque no longer included government involvement in stopping it. Because under no circumstances in this country should the government be involved in the legal building of houses of worship. Our country was founded for that freedom and it must be protected.
Iman Rauf's appearance on Larry King Live last night should give every person pause. This is a well educated man who chooses his words carefully. As such, even if you are looking at this mosque only as a constitutional issue, his words should make you want to reassess that opinion.
"If we move from that location the story will be that the radicals have taken over the discourse. The headlines in the Muslim world will be that Islam is under attack"
"The danger from the radicals in the Muslim to our national security, to the national security of our troops"
"No one's body is at this location."
Basically what this man is saying is that we have to do what the radicals want or else. I don't think that we do.
No where in the Muslim world do they have religious freedoms for non-Muslims. So, there opinion of our freedoms are completely irrelevant.
Who exactly is it that is driving the headlines? He and his wife have both made inflammatory statements that will then be beamed across the world. He is making the headlines.
The vast majority of people didn't get any body back, the murder victims were basically pulverized.
I am not one to be blindly against Muslims. I do believe that some of the opposition is based on more than just the location. There are people that want all Muslims out of this country, that cannot be denied. But, I don't think that fear is unreasonable. For those who want don't understand the fear factor here is something that sounds perfectly reasonable to me.
Terrorism experts say about 7% of Muslims have been radicalized. That seems like a very small percentage until you actually do the math. There are approximately 1.1 billion Muslims in the world. That is approximately 7 million radicalized terrorists that are willing to strap bombs on themselves to kill as many innocent people as possible. We have quite a few states in this country that don't have that many people in them. That is a legitimate reason to be afraid.
The fact that the Iman is unwilling to answer some very simple questions should give everyone some pause:
How did a man who was a waiter just a few short years ago come up with the money to buy the property?
Does anyone really believe that the radicals will not attack us if we the mosque is built?
Where is the money coming from?
Why does the Iman's book have a different translation in English than in Arabic?
If the Iman understands the sensitivity of the victims families, then why is just move it several blocks?
If these questions are answered they may find that they will garner more support than just 30% of Americans.
On September 11, 2001 Sharon Carver was sitting in her office at the Pentagon when a hijacked plane hit the building killing her. She was only 38 years old. She was civillian accountant for the Army while working towards her master's degree in accounting. She lived with her family in Waldorf, MD. The days after the attack her nephew was interviewed by the local news, they were still holding out hope that she survived the attack. One of many hearbreaking scences that played out for days after the attack.
A life that was cut too short. A life that will not include grandchildren or growing old. A life that will no longer include the annual family vacations. She was days back from a family outing to Disney World. A family is now missing a loving daughter, sister, and aunt. The Pentagon is missing a dedicated emloyee, and her friends are missing her personality, her humor, and that amazing smile of hers.
Sharon believed in education and public service. Traits that we should all aspire to. She was dedicated to her family and her country.
"You are truly missed. I remember your kind and warm spirit. You brightened the halls of Anacostia with your smile."
Denise
To Sharon's family, there are no words to express our sympathies to you. May God Bless you and know that Sharon is watching over you and smiling.
“The Cuban model doesn’t even work for us anymore,”
Fidel Castro
“He wasn’t rejecting the ideas of the Revolution. I took it to be an acknowledgment that under ‘the Cuban model’ the state has much too big a role in the economic life of the country.”
Apparently the younger guy in the video has a real potty mouth and swears almost every other word. The woman took exception to it and the melee begins.
This is a tribute that took place in Fairfield County, CT. Fairfield County borders New York and is very close to Manhatten. Many people who work in New York City live in this part of CT.
I grew up right near this park that has this memorial, it is beautiful there in the summer time.
"... I don't think a $1,000 scholarship's going to do too much ..." You know, it's like that's barely plane fare to Aruba, anyway? What's the big deal?
My question to her then would be why did you have your grandchildren get the money then?
"The Tea Party needs to be shown what our President has done that resonates with their ideals. Common themes are lower taxes, smaller government, slowing down illegal immigration, and creating private sector jobs (and keeping companies from going overseas.)
Well, let's look at the President's record on these issues since taking office 20 months ago. He lowered taxes on the middle class in his stimulus plan, government jobs have declined this past month by 121,000 so it could be said that he is shrinking government while private jobs increased by 67,000 (jobs have been increasing steadily for Obama's first year after being lost on the average of 700,000 a month under President Bush's last year in office), and despite claims of otherwise by Arizona Governor Brewer with her false accusations of beheadings, illegal immigration has declined this past year and there have been more deportations under President Obama than President George W. Bush. President Obama also kept his campaign promises for health care reform (which he believes will create more private jobs) and getting us militarily out of Iraq. But the President never gets any credit for these accomplishments."
The liberals must be getting desperate if they think that the president would reach out to The Tea Party. The Tea Party goes against everything that Obama believes in. What about Limited Government doesn't the liberals understand?
The military pull out of Iraq has nothing to do with President Obama, that was signed, sealed and delivered by President Bush before the election. It isn't his accomplishment although he sure as heck has tried to make it so. Illegal immigration is down because the economy is bad, as soon as more jobs are available the numbers will go right back up. It's the economy stupid, not anything that the Obama administration has done.
The liberals also don't seem to get that EVERYONE'S taxes will be going up in January. The left winged media meme was that only the "rich" got tax breaks under the Bush administration, but it simply isn't the case. Unless Congress gets off it's duff, we will all be seeing our taxes increase come January.
The Census workers have finished with their jobs, that is the decrease in government employees. The Greater DC area has an unemployment rate of less than 6% the last time I checked. The reason for that is the increase in government jobs since Obama has taken office.
How can The Tea Party people believe anything that this current administration may do to reach out if the facts are not even correct?
“I wanted to be stronger than it was before. And over the past two years, that’s meant taking on some powerful interests. Some powerful interests that have been setting the agenda in Washington for a long time, and they’re not always happy with me. They talk about me like a dog. That’s not in my prepared remarks, but it’s true.”
President Obama speaking to union members today.
Hmm, which interests could he be talking about?
The Congressional Black Caucus isn't jazzed with the president:
"It's self-evident that the efforts to date have not, particularly in the African-American community and other minority communities and among young people -- done the job that needs to be done."
Members of Congress are running ads against him as well:
The far left:
“I simply can’t believe you’re about to do what they say you are going to do,”
“With just one speech tomorrow night you will turn a multitude of young people who were the backbone of your campaign into disillusioned cynics,” ...... “Your potential decision to expand the war … will do more to set your legacy in stone than any of the great things you’ve said and done in your first year. "
“For the sake of your presidency, hope, and the future of our nation, stop. For God’s sake, stop,”
Chavez has recently introduced what he is calling the "Good Life" card. This card is how the people of Venezula will be buying their groceries. That's right, the government now will have control over how and when you buy your groceries.
The card is said to be a way to beat inflation. According to Chavez:
"It's a card for you to purchase what you are going to take and they keep deducting. It's to buy what you need, not to promote communism, but to buy what just what you need.''
Hmm, "just what you need". Who is it exactly that is deciding what you need? Does this card have information on it about how large your family is? After all, a person who has five kids needs more than a person with none.
The reason that this is so worrisome is:
When the government controls how much you eat, they control everything about your life. This is a dangerous road to travel down and when we have people in the administration that hold this man up as an example of how life should be, we have every right to be not just worried, but scared for our children's future.
For those of you who don't know, Project 2996 is an effort to make sure that every person who was murdered on 9/11 has an online tribute. This has been an ongoing effort since 2006 and the founder Dale is trying to make sure that it is completed by the 10 year anniversary.
No Sheeples Here has gotten an early start and has been putting up tributes all week. They are very touching, you should go over and have a read. She also has put together this video to bring attention to the project.
There is still a list of names of people who have no tribute up on the web. Please help if you can.
Schilling is running against Congressman Hare. You may remember him, he doesn't think the consitution .matters Hare is also on the list of members of the Socialist party.
Broden is running against the woman who didn't realize that giving her staff and family scholarship money from the CBC was an ethics violation. Again another socialist.
These are some very worthy candidates. Please vote for who believe deserves the money bomb.
Liberals like to say that all conservatives think alike. They do not. The more you involve yourself in the movement that is going on the more you realize this. I spend a great deal of time reading as much as I can about what is going on this great country of ours. I like being informed. I also like reading points of view other than my own. I strongly believe that reading other points of view solidify my own beliefs, and in some instances I learn something.
I also promised myself that I would stay true to own my voice and values. I have met some very nice people during this process. I have also met some not so nice ones as well. I have a twitter follower who is brutal. He calls me a Nazi. Which for the life of me I cannot understand as Nazi's believe in a powerful government and I firmly believe in a limited one.
On quite a few occasions I have been called a troll and traitor among other names. I was talking to someone the other day that I met through the tea party movement. She had what I believe to be her first experience with that.
She is medical professional who has very strong views on how nurses are treated in society. I really don't know a great deal about that topic as I have never worked in the medical field. But, she has dedicated her life to it.
She came across an article that someone had posted regarding Obamacare. The article is irrelevant, but the photo that was put with the article is not. It was a picture of nurse dressed in provocative clothing. A stereotype that makes her crazy. She was telling me that this is something that professional nurses have been fighting for what seems like forever. She made a comment on the picture and how it was not only a negative stereotype it also was degrading to women in general.
In return, she was a called a feminazi and liberal. Really? Since when did sexualizing women become a conservative value? Did the same people that made these comments feel that it was OK for Newsweek to put Gov. Palin on it's cover in running shorts? I have this feeling that the answer to that question is no.
There needs to be some things that we can accept that we agree upon. We should be able to agree for example that sexualizing women is not a healthy thing to do; it gives young girls the wrong impression of what they should become. Young girls see these images and feel like the need to look like Kate Moss in order to be considered attractive. Eating disorders among teenage girls is a serious problem in this country, and this is part of the reason why.
People think that because I am a conservative blogger that I can never say anything positive about President Obama. That simply isn't the case. While I will admit that it is hard for me to find things that I agree with him on, but one thing that I really do like about the president is the positive family image he projects. Family is the bedrock to our society. I have no way of knowing what the Obama's are like in private, but the public image is of a man who loves his two little girls and wants to be a positive role model for them. This is a good message that in many ways gets lost in our society; and it should not. As conservatives, we need to promote family values and everything good that brings to our children. While we may disagree on what constitutes a family, we can agree that family is important.
We are never going to agree on everything. Life would be pretty boring if we did. But the conservative movement needs to learn to be nicer to one another and to not to revert to name calling simply because someone has a one or two viewpoints that may be different than our own. Especially when that view point is about treating women as a sexual object instead of a human being with real emotions that deserves dignity and respect.
Very close friends of mine are having some major difficulties at the moment. He finally found a lower paying job after five months of unemployment and recently lost that job as well. Luckily while times were good, he over paid his mortgage because the plan had been to refinance. But, he is underwater and refinancing is going to be difficult at best, especially since he is not working full time.
They are moving in with friends who have extra space after renting his house furnished. We are crossing our fingers that the renters will take care of his stuff. He and his wife are going through major adjustments. Their three kids are adjusting to living in someone else's home as well as going to a public school for the first time in their lives as they had been homeschooled until now. They both are working part time as that is all they can find for the moment.
They have completely run out savings and the mortgage payments that they paid ahead have now run out. The rent that they are collecting will not pay the mortgage in full, it helps, but it is not everything that they need. They are just in major meltdown at the moment and the strains are showing in their marriage. The house is rented for six months and the friends agreed to let them stay for the duration of that time, but that will be gone in a blink of an eye, and then they will be right back to where they started unless he finds another job that pays as well as his first one.
So, if anyone has any extra money I have added a pay pal account to help raise some money for some really good people who are just in a bad way at the moment and need some help. I have done all that I can, but thought that this may be one more way for me to help them out. I am sure that they will be mortified to know that I did this, but hey, these are unusual circumstances and I am a big believer in pay it forward. At different times in my life I had to get help. It can happen to almost anyone. Even small amounts will add up over time. I am going to repost this from time to time.
I want to say thanks in advance to anyone that can help out some very decent people who just found themselves in a bad situation that is no fault of their own.
I also want to say a big thank you to the generous people that donated the first time I posted this.
He is running for congress in the NC 07. He is Iraq war vet, a former Marine, and businessman. Michelle Malkin's view of him is as follows:
Longtime readers of this blog and Hot Air know the extraordinary story of Ilario Pantano’s heroism. He’s the Marine sniper-turned-Wall Street trader who rejoined the military after 9/11, faced the death penalty for killing two Iraqi insurgents in the heat of battle in a terrorist-infested town near Baghdad, fought fiercely and successfully to clear his name, wrote the book Warlord chronicling his experiences, and defended other defenders who volunteer to put themselves in harm’s way for their countrymen.
Pantano is continuing his journey of public service in the political square. He’s running against Democrat incumbent Rep. Mike McIntyre in North Carolina’s 7th district. UNC Wilmington prof and Townhall columnist Mike Adams has a nice profile of Pantano here.
Pantano’s website is here: He’s on a mission to protect the homeland, preserve conservative values, and increase fiscal accountability. Please lend your support to a warrior who put his life on the line for America.
Here is a little ditty I found on a speech he gave on Memorial Day. It has some information on The National Anthem you may not have heard.
Please remember to mark your donation as Ten Bucks Friday..........Remember November!! Election day is less than two months away.
Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson is trying to tell people that she didn't think anything was wrong with family members of her and her staff getting scholarships from the CBC. Really? Has this woman ever read the rules of pretty much any give away? They always disallow staff and their families for just this reason. The people who received this money may very well been deserving, but it gives the impression of special treatment.

Anderson Cooper isn't even buying her story. The reality is if you are not intelligent enough to realize that your grandchildren should not be getting this money than you are not intelligent enough to serve in congress.

A belief in the written constitution. The belief that we are responsible for ourselves and for our families. The belief that we are allowed to fail. The belief in a strong national defense are a few of the things that make me just a conservative girl.
