John Boehner is far from perfect.  But a socialist?  I don't think so.  One of the things that I really admire about what Speaker Boehner has done is that he has given more power to the committee's in the house, and by doing so he is giving more voice to the individual congress member.  Which in turn gives more voice to the people in the districts they are representing.  He has ceded some of the power that when Nancy Pelosi was speaker grabbed away from the members.  She only allowed a few people to make all the decisions.  That is not representative government.

The most under-reported story of the election cycle that just ended was the fact that the GOP had 37 black candidates running to be seated for the first time.

The Congressional Black Caucus, in all of it's infinite wisdom, has decided to throw it's support behind Ron Klein over Allen West in the Florida 22 congressional race.  In case you are not aware, Klein is white and West is black.  Civil Rights activist and Icon John Lewis will also be campaigning for Klein.

I think that the time has come that we start calling organizations what they really are.  The Congressional Black Caucus should rightly be renamed the Congressional Black Liberals.  The members have repeatedly have shown nothing but contempt for conservatives who happen to be black.  I think we all remember the comment made by Eleanor Norton Holmes on Justice Thomas:

"We’ve got someone who proposes to be African-American on the court"

Has this woman ever seen Justice Thomas?  I don't think there can any doubt if he is black or not, as his skin tone is very dark. 

For the CBC to say that one of the purposes of the caucus is to promote more black legislators in the process and then to go and campaign for a white candidate over a black one is simply stunning to me.  The percentage of black voters in this particular district is about 5% and the district is pretty evenly divided politically.  The 5% of blacks could be what makes the difference in this very close election, but West in now up in the polls.   I am sure this what CBC is counting on.   

Somehow, I don't think that Allen West will be all that disappointed not to get an invitation to join the caucus once he kicks Klein to the curb.

In Defense of Rove

There is talk all over the blogosphere and talk radio about Karl Rove's resistance to the candidacy of Christine O'Donnell.  It was not all that long ago that people in the tea party were complaining of "party hacks".  I am among them.  I don't want to follow a candidate blindly, that is exactly how we got President Obama.  The average voter did not research on their own. 

There are some serious questions regarding Christine O'Donnell.  Her foreclosure, her lack of income, her being fired by company for using their resources to start her business, and her accusations of being followed and harassed but not reporting this to the police, and her campaign staff allegedly being behind the accusations of Castle being gay.  There very well may be logical explanations to all of these issues.  But wanting answers to these questions is not only our right, but also our responsibilities as voters and people who donate to her campaign. 

Politics is a nasty business.  Like it or not, your entire life is put under a microscope.  Every mistake that you have made will become public fodder.  While I don't think it should necessarily be this way, the reality remains that it is.  This is the exact reason that I NEVER would run for public office. I have way too many things in my past that I would not want printed in the newspapers or talked about on television. 

One of the things that the Tea Party has been saying is that both parties have become too powerful and are more interested in power.  The politico's in Washington are too entrenched, dishonest, and corrupt.  Why then would we automatically back a candidate that has these serious issues to clear up?  Her explanations on these have not been detailed and in many cases have just turned into attacks on other people. 

Rove has stood up and said that if we talk about wanting principled based government, we should only be backing principled based candidates.  Many don't even realize that this is O'Donnell's third attempt at office.  She is not a candidate that was motivated by the "Tea Party" movement to through her hat into the ring.  She is an ambitious flawed woman.  Not there is anything wrong with ambition.  Ambition is a good motivator, especially in a market based economy that we have in America. 

While we are all flawed and there will never be the "perfect" candidate there are some flaws that go directly to question of character.  Honesty is the very least that we should be expect from our candidates and our representatives.  If we just going to say "well, they all lie" than what exactly is the point of what we are doing?  The power to end all of this is in the hands of O'Donnell, she can answer these questions thoroughly and honestly and then move on.  One would think that with all that has been dug up during the primary process, there is nothing more damaging to come out.  If she answers these questions she then can concentrate her efforts on the general election and she may also find that she will start to receive support from the conservatives that have some questions about her honesty and integrity.

In my opinion, there was no good choice in the Delaware Senate Primary.  But, O'Donnell has won the nomination and Cap and Tax supporter Mike Castle's long over due pink slip has been delivered.  But, these below videos are going to give MSNBC a great deal of fodder over the next 45 days. 

What Conservatives Should Learn From Speaker Pelosi

Nanny Pelosi, while a crazy leftist, is not stupid.   At least when it comes to political strategy.  She has been planning her far left agenda for quite some time.  She was methodical in getting the majorities that she now enjoys.  Her first job was increase the numbers in 2002.  That set up the democrats regaining control in 2004.  One of the ways that she did this was to pay attention to the needs of the individual districts.  She paid attention to what the voters felt comfortable with.  Out came the blue dogs. 

In 08 when the democrats had a filibuster proof majority and the presidency she pushed her far left agenda.  While they were not able to get through everything on their wish list, they got health care, financial reform, and porkulus.  Not everything they wished for, but enough.  More than enough from my point of view.  My point being that she worked over several years to get her majority where she needed it to be in order to get her agenda passed.  When the tough votes were needed, she held her majority together, by hook or by crook. 

This is what the tea party may be missing.  The Tea Party is putting forth candidates that in some cases are a little out of the mainstream within certain districts.  The Tea Party is having a very good effect in more republican strongholds, but that luck is not spreading to more democrat areas. 

The Tea Party has spent a great deal of time going after the likes of Scott Brown on different occasions.  Many are forgetting that Brown is being the senator that the majority of his voters want.  He is polling higher than both Senator Kerry and President Obama. 

The reality is we will not ever have 435 Michele Bachmans in the house and 100 Jim DeMints in the senate as good as they may sound to conservatives.  What we need to work on is getting the numbers.  Once you have the numbers you get a strong conservative leader in place and hold the majority together.  A perfect example of what I am talking about is the California senate race.  Chuck DeVore was the better conservative candidate, but Carly is the one that has the chance of giving "Call Me Senator" Boxer her long overdue pink slip.  You then have a strong leader in the Senate to keep Carly in line. 

By trying to force a district/state further right than they are comfortable in going you lose.  Pelosi has proven you can get what you want by playing the numbers game.  The Tea Party would be wise to take her lead.

As always he hits it out the park.  It will be a very sad day if this man doesn't win his primary.  His opponent Rick Scott couldn't even be bothered to show up for this.

Niiki Haley Wins the GOP Nomination in South Carolina

Nikki Haley won the runoff the GOP nomination to run for Governor in South Carolina.  This was a bare knuckled dirty campaign.  A blogger made accusations of an affair and much was made out of her conversion to Christianity 13 years ago. 

Nikki is a no nonsense conservative that could be a rising star in the GOP down the road.  She is a tea party favorite, too!!

South Carolina is a conservative leaning state, so she has a good chance of becoming the first female governor in that state.  She won the nomination with 65% of the vote.

Buh Bye Senator Bennett

Senator Bob Bennett, 76,  was given his walking papers today from the Utah GOP Convention.  He was ousted on the second ballot earlier today.  Bennett has been in office since 1992 even though he initially said he would only serve two terms. 

Bennett has voted for mandated insurance, the wall street bailout, and is known for his earmarks.  A combo that seems to be the kiss of death this election cycle.  The Senator also spends little time with dealing with the people of Utah and addressing their concerns.  He has a war chest for his re-election that is said to be in the millions, although during his last election he never ran an ad on television and yet still won with 69% of the vote.  Another words, he figured he could stay in the senate as long as he wanted and to heck with the people he was there to represent. 

Bennett has found out the hard way what the Tea Party is really all about.  We want representatives that actually represent our needs and are fiscally responsible.  There will need to be a runoff as the other two candidates couldn't garner the 60% of the delegate vote to win the nomination outright.  The runoff will be on June 22 between Tim Bridgewater and Mike Lee. 

Senator Bennett, you are too old and too entrenched in the DC establishment.  Time for you to pick up your toys and go home.

Give a Girl a Hand - Help Re-elect Michele Bachmann

I had heard some rumors a few months back that Nancy Pelosi was bound and determined to see Michele Bachmann lose her re-election bid.  Turns out that rumors are true.  The DCCC spent more than $100,000 last week on ads in the Minneapolis market.  This market is in the top 20 in the country which makes it very expensive to advertise.  The congresswoman is going to need millions in order to stay competitive in this race. 

With all that is going on with the RNC right now, I think giving directly to candidates is the way to go.  If you want to keep a very strong conservative voice in the house and have a few extra dollars, she will need all that she can get.  You can donate here.

A very compelling man running for congress in Florida.  His tea party speech went viral over the summer.  This speech was not quite as firey, but very good all the same.

Angela McGlowan has announced her candidacy for the congressional seat in the Mississippi 1st. The seat is currently being held by Travis Childers, who won the seat in a special election in mid 2008. The seat had been reliably republican until the special election that took place after Gov. Haley Barbour sent Roger Wicker to the senate after Trent Lott stepped down at the end of 2007.
