Liberal Logic - Do as I say, or go to jail

H.R. 3962 provides that an individual (or a husband and wife in the case of a joint return) who does not, at any time during the taxable year, maintain acceptable health insurance coverage for himself or herself and each of his or her qualifying children is subject to an additional tax.” [page 1]

“If the government determines that the taxpayer’s unpaid tax liability results from willful behavior, the following penalties could apply…” [page 2]

“Criminal penalties

Prosecution is authorized under the Code for a variety of offenses. Depending on the level of the noncompliance, the following penalties could apply to an individual:

• Section 7203 – misdemeanor willful failure to pay is punishable by a fine of up to $25,000 and/or imprisonment of up to one year.

Section 7201 – felony willful evasion is punishable by a fine of up to $250,000 and/or imprisonment of up to five years.” [page 3]

What nonsense!

The health reform bill doesn't even require you buy insurance. But, should you decide not to buy insurance, you are required to help pay your share of the cost of universal care for everyone through a tax. (If you buy health insurance, that cost in included.)

If you willfully refuse to pay your income taxes you *might* go to jail too. Are you demanding we stop collecting taxes to pay for the Republican debacle over the past decade?

Apparently it does. This is from the bill. You can continue to keep your head in the sand if you want to, but this bill is about government control. If it was about helping people get health insurance that is affordable, then I would be all for it.

Many, maybe even most, of the liberals I know are control freaks or manipulative.

What's the other option? We could have socialized medicine. We could have people pay indirectly through higher medical costs, as we do now. Or we could let people w/o money or insurance just die. We're not going to let people die b/c political regressives don't hold that much sway. We won't have fully socialized medicine b/c the far left doesn't hold that much sway. If you accept this, then you're arguing for the present system in which we all pay indirectly in the form of higher costs. If someone's going to pay anyway, shouldn't people be required to have enough money on hand to pay for their bills or to have insurance? Otherwise, it's the back-door socialism we have in place now.
