Virginia Senate All Tied Up - Gov McDonnell's Statement on Results

"Tonight, Virginia voters have made history. Republicans have gained at least 6 seats in the House of Delegates, bringing our majority to at least 65 members, the highest number Republicans have ever had in that body. In the Senate, Republicans have gained two seats, bringing the Party to 20 seats, with Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling holding the tie-breaking vote in the chamber. Over the course of this campaign, Republican candidates have focused on providing common sense solutions to the challenges facing our citizens. And that is how we will govern in the majority. We will continue to put forward common sense policies that will help the private sector create jobs and reform our government to make it more efficient and effective. I want to thank all the candidates, from both parties, who ran for office. Their commitment to public service is what our Commonwealth and country needs. Now, it is time to come together to govern and make this a true "Commonwealth of Opportunity" for all our citizens."
It didn't go quite as well as some had hoped, but we did manage to tie the Senate.  Lt. Gov Bill Bolling will make the deciding vote on any tie.  We should be able to get more choice for VA students.

This can't be good news for the Dems.

Obama will undoubtedly respond by doubling down on liberal policies.

I am sure that they are. The republicans did very well in Fairfax County. A county that Obama must win handily if he is to win VA. Northern VA is the dem stronghold, the rest of the state is moderate to conservative. Very few liberals in the rest of the state.

The woman lost her race, but that is because of one county that is wildly liberal and won't vote for the GOP if their lives depended on it. She got only 22% of that county. You need to get at least 28 to win. This after they brought in slick willy to fundraise and the unions poured money into the race, as a flipped senate will bring about a voucher program. I would say it was a bad night for team Obama.
