3 Years and a Lot of Blah, Blah, Blah

Today is Just A Conservative Girl's blogoversary.  Three years ago today I dipped my two into the wild world of the blogosphere.

I hope that I have enjoyed reading it as much as I have enjoyed writing it.

Here are some of my favorite posts:

Et Tu, Stacy McCain

I was up even earlier than usual today as I had to get everything ready for the trip down to the Lincoln Memorial for the most amazing sunrise service on Easter Sunday.  After the services, the annual Easter Egg hunt (or should I say spring sphere) took place, then the very large breakfast commenced.  The pancakes with fresh blueberries and heated syrup and the Eggs Benedict were both made to perfection if I don't mind saying so myself.  After a few hours of Nerf darts to wear off the rare treat of chocolate in the morning all has settled down.

I have been thinking about a post I read early this morning on The Other McCain that originally started over a ridiculous OP-ED piece on how all Fraternities should be closed down as they only encourage young college aged males to rape young woman.  But that is post for another time.

Stacy then found his way to an article about how many women get married anyway even though their gut is telling them something else.  An article in Marie Clare talked about how much of this has to do with the fairy tales we tell our young daughters and as they grow they watch the romantic comedies that come out of our Hollywood culture saying that love conquers all.

While much of Stacy is discussing is the personal responsibility that is being taken away and this article is creating almost a victimhood mentality of young women due to these influences that most young women grow up with.  What Stacy has completely overlooked is the culture that we have created for not only ourselves but for our young girls.  Divorce is the answer.

We no longer have the reason to make our marriages work.  We no longer have the reasons to listen to our guts as we are waiting to walk down the aisle and that little voice is saying RUN AS FAST YOU CAN IN THE OTHER DIRECTION.  We can simply go through the motions because for a relatively small amount of money and short waiting time we can just start over.  The divorce rate in our society is far too high.
43.7% of custodial mothers and 56.2% of custodial fathers were either separated or divorced. And in 2002, 7.8 million Americans paid about $40 billion in child and/or spousal support (84% of the payers were male).
Stacy asked the question:
.
Amanda Clark got a $15,000 gown and a 7-carat ring, and she still wasn’t happy, so whose fault is that?

Was it really the fault of her husband being the Wrong Guy? To believe that, you must believe that somewhere out there is the Right Guy, ready and eager to wed Amanda Clark, except for the fact that she goofed up and married the Wrong Guy. But shouldn’t we at least consider the alternative hypothesis, that Amanda Clark was to some extent responsible for the failure of her own marriage? Isn’t it possible that she was the Wrong Woman?

It may be that Amanda is the wrong woman, but what is also possible is that Amanda  didn't care that he was the wrong guy, because she could just get that quickie no fault divorce and find the "right guy".  Part of the lie that feminist movement has hoisted on our young females (and males for that matter) is that divorce is so common that it has almost become a right of passage, and if you are being made to feel that you are not being understood or are not reaching your potential in all your glorious womanhood you can get up and walk away, it isn't that big of a deal.  Self fulfillment is the far more superior objective than actually taking your time and marrying the right person
I am not trying to say that people are not making a difficult choice or that they don't even attempt to work on a marriage, but the divorce rates being as high as they are we must ask ourselves what makes one go through with a marriage if you are not feeling right about from day one?  Marriage is very hard work.  You have to compromise, you have to give up some things that at one point in your life you considered very important.  You have to put your spouses feelings at least as high on the totem pole that you put your own.  You also must accept the fact that it isn't going to be rosy each and every day.  You will go through patches that are painful and you must be honest about that pain and the causes of it.  You also have to realize that all those habits that you think are so cute before you get married aren't really all that cute after you live them everyday year after year.  The things that bother you before the wedding only become more pronounced after the big day.  We become even more ourselves.  You have to work on your marriage like divorce isn't an option.  That is very hard work indeed.

What I am saying is that our society feeds the idea that marriage the first time around is just a test run and if your fulfillment in your womanhood is being threatened the answer is divorce.  Stacy questions if we woman are asking the question is it us.  It isn't that women don't ask is it us, but it is that women are being told even if it us this doesn't feel good and doesn't fit the narrative that we can indeed have it all, we then can just have a start over.  Even Stacy didn't ask the question of how damaging the woman's rights movement has been.  So I must ask, Et Tu Stacy, Et Tu?

America, Faith, and The Moral Compass

I was reading a post on Another Black Conservative where Cliff made the observation that our society's moral compass is in disrepair on his post about the latest photos released by TMZ on Anthony Weiner's obsession with taking pictures of his private parts. My comment to him was that it is more than just in disrepair, the compass is on all out life support. Cliff was really talking about how we get the government we deserve. What does it say when Weiner's district wants him to stay in office?

I truly believe that America's turn to the type of permissiveness that allows this to happen can be traced back to the court case that forever changed the way we view religion in our country. While it doesn't have the name recognition that a Brown V. Board of Ed has, the change in our country has been substantial. McCollum v. Board of Ed was a landmark decision in this country. Many people don't realize that the words separation of church and state don't exist in our constitution. I remember years back I stupidly took a job with a progressive DM agency thinking I could just put my head down and do my job. I went for the paycheck instead of my principles. It didn't go well to say the least. I was a fish out of water. I am sure that the majority of people there backed Obama over Hillary years ago in the primary, and I would feel safe in saying that they don't feel Obama has gone far enough. Don't get me wrong, most of them were very nice people who I happened to disagree with. Bush was in office at the time and the Bush bashing was done on a regular basis. I was talking to a young guy about something. I can't recall what the conversation was actually about but I had mentioned to him that it doesn't exist in the constitution. He didn't believe me. I told him if he could find it I would give him $1,000. I also told him to do some research on Judge Hugo Black, the former KKK member. Yes, that is right we had a KKK member on the highest court of the land at one time in this country. McCollum was a case brought by an atheist mom who didn't like that her local school system had VOLUNTARY religious classes. The premise of her case was that her son was subject to ridicule due to the fact that he didn't attend these classes. The classes were put on by a council that included Jews, Protestants, and Roman Catholics. This was designed specifically to give children a choice in religious education. This was not done to exclude anyone nor was it forced on anyone. It well-known how the KKK felt about Catholics and Jews.

The battle to remove God from our lives has been an ongoing struggle in this country for about a century, but this case in particular made major changes. This case opened the door for the ACLU to sue at the drop of the hat over high school graduations, Christmas celebrations done in the squares of small towns and big cities across this nation. They rarely miss an opportunity to do so. The founders of this country were very clear about what they wanted for the country. No federally mandated religion was to be allowed, but they wanted a society that could openly worship. The founders believed that in order for a society to survive it must have a moral compass.

Morality of course is in the eye of beholder. But by relegated religion to almost a back room status we have opened our society up to changing social norms and we have acquiesced what it is that we find acceptable in our society. Look at the things that the far left can accomplish by pushing religion to the back burner. Abortion on demand, because human life is no longer kept at the forefront. We are also seeing a push for assisted suicide. You can face heavy fines for damaging bird eggs in this country, but you can kill an unborn human being at will. The left never has to answer for this hypocrisy because the unborn is no longer characterized as life. It is just a bunch of cells. If it feels good, do it. If you want to have sex with five different partners in one week, go ahead. There shouldn't be any differences between men and women, when the differences are long, varied, and obvious. The stay at home traditional mom is vilified and the men who support the traditional mom are called Neanderthals, even by people on the right.

What organizations like the ACLU have done is diminish our society, not improve it. They have given us a society that allows a congressman to take naked pictures of his private parts and have no price to pay. The polls in Weiner's district show that they are OK with what he did and don't feel he needs to step aside. What kind of twisted logic does it take to write off his behavior as a personal failing and say that his personal judgement in no way gets in the way of his professional judgement to make decisions that effects the lives of everyday Americans? If Anthony Weiner worked in the private sector and his job found out he was texting pictures of himself wearing next to nothing while working out in the company gym he would be fired, yet we have people in this country who think that he should still be allowed to continue in the legislative body of our federal government. This is a loss of a moral compass. This is a loss of faith in our society and our God. The fact that the congressman worships God in a different fashion than I do, is irrelevant to me. What is relevant to me is that people like him are constantly pushing for more and more laws in this country that take away my rights to worship freely and openly, yet gives government a larger say in my life and how I live it. The same government that says it is OK for him to keep his position.

I say no thank you to the liberalism view that it is OK for the government/public school systems to decide how I feed my child, because I may not pick the foods that are "healthy" or to decide for me how often I can use my air conditioner to save the planet against man-made global warming when the science for this is still unclear and recent events have left many questioning if this is not just some money-making hoax. A government that hires people who specialize in using marketing tools to get the public to do what it wants and the main stream media covering the story like it is a good thing instead of the scary thing that it really is. Yet doesn't feel that what Anthony Weiner did rises to the level of bringing dishonor to the House of Representatives than we as a society no longer have a moral compass. When a sitting member of congress who was writing tax laws for the rest of us slubs is cheating on his taxes and is allowed to stay in congress we have lost our moral compass. When the people in the district of Charlie Rangel re-elected him knowing he was a cheat saying "they all do it" we have lost our moral compass. When we allow people to work on Capitol Hill that owe back taxes we have lost our moral compass. When the U.S. Senate confirms a man who is a tax cheat to head Treasury, we have lost our moral compass. By turning our back to faith and to God, we have created a society that is losing its moral compass.

What liberals need to realize is that practicing faith out in the open will only enrich our society. By having acts of faith in our town squares will help bring our moral compass back to life. It is nothing to fear, as you will not be forced to participate. But you will wreak the benefits of a society that cherishes values that don't allow people like Anthony Weiner and Charlie Rangel to continue to serve at the highest levels of government when anyone in the private sector would pay a high price for the behavior. We would all benefit from expecting our government officials to act in a moral and ethical way.

Uncle Tom - A Profile in Conviction

Conservatives who happen to be people of color hear the words “Uncle Tom” on a regular basis. I have heard that term ever since I can remember. The term has always been to me a put down. During an interview of Alveda King, the niece of Martin, she said she viewed it as a compliment and viewed Uncle Tom as a hero.

I have no memory of reading Uncle Tom’s Cabin. I am sure that I read it in school, but I don’t remember the book at all. A few months back I picked up the book and started reading it on a very irregular basis. I went into reading this not believing that I would view Uncle Tom in this way. I was mostly wrong.

I found the book to be sad. Harriet Beecher Stowe wasn’t above racism herself. The narrative that she gave in the book makes that very clear. Although one must remember the time that this was written in. Racism was the acceptable view point. It was never questioned, not even by the northerners. While they felt that slavery should end, they certainly didn’t want to embrace the black community. Many whites wanted to round them up and send them all back to Africa. If you read deeply into the history books it seems that this was the view point that President Lincoln held as well. He was killed so shortly after the civil war ended that we will never know if this was his plan, but there is historical evidence to back up that view.

Black conservatives are called Uncle Tom’s all the time. They are also called Oreo’s, race traitors and many more derogatory names. Allen West recently said this during his tax day tea party speech. Many believe that he is turning his back on his race by embracing conservative views. I have never quite understood why it is that some believe that all blacks must walk in lockstep to a certain political ideology. How exactly is that equality if everyone must think alike?

I just finished the book today. I was totally blown away by the book, and realized I read the second half of the book much more quickly than I did the first half. I finished the book with a much greater understanding of what Ms. King was trying to say. The way that Tom lived his life is admirable.

Tom was a man who lived by his convictions. Tom was before anything else a Christian. He viewed his life through this prism. He loved his family and he lived his life in an honorable and decent way. At the beginning of the book Tom is sold to cover some debts of his original owner. His wife encourages him to run away with Eliza, another slave that was about to have her son sold away from her. Eliza couldn’t bear the thought of living without her son, so she ran. Tom told his wife that he couldn’t do that. His original master, Shelby, treated him fairly, as far as Tom was concerned. He felt that Shelby wouldn’t be doing this if it were not necessary. Tom read his bible and said his goodbye’s to his family. He left with the belief that he would be back to his family when the money was there.

Tom was sold to yet another “master” who treated him as well as one could expect during the time of slavery. Time went by and many things happen over the course of Tom living in Louisiana under his new circumstances. Tom was set to be freed by St. Clare but he died suddenly and that didn’t happen. Tom was eventually sold to one more Master. This one was a brutal and mean spirited man. Legree asks Tom to beat an older woman who is poor health; he is beaten when he refuses. Legree ends up killing Uncle Tom when he refuses to rat out his fellow slaves who have runaway. Sadly it was just before Shelby family raised enough money to bring him back to his family, where he would have been a free man with his family.

The point being that Tom never walked away from his own convictions. His belief system sustained him throughout his life. A life that was never easy and almost always sad. Tom was a man who used passive resistance to his existence. He certainly wasn’t one to be called a “sell out” or “race traitor”. There is nothing in the book that should make one jump to that conclusion.

When St Clare asks him if he would not be better off a slave than a free man, Tom responds with a straight: "No." "Why Tom, you couldn't possibly have earned, by your work, such clothes and such living as I have given you," says St Clare. "Know's all that Mas'r," says Tom. "But I'd rather have poor clothes, poor house, poor everything and have 'em mine, than have the best, and have 'em any man else's."

The narrative of the sell out actually began several decades after the books release. It started around the turn of the century. While slavery had ended decades earlier the institutionalized racism certainly had not ended. The traveling minstrel shows were very popular during the times of the First World War, and “Uncle Tom” type shows were the rage. This is where much of the narrative started.

While I may not necessarily call Uncle Tom a hero in the same way that Ms. King has referred to him as, what I will say if a politician is being called an Uncle Tom; they may just be someone worth voting for. Uncle Tom was man who lived by his convictions, loved his God, loved his family, and never wavered from what he believed in and what was important in his life. He did what was right, instead of what was easy. Wouldn’t it be nice if more of our politicians were like that?

Quote of the Day - Yours Truly Conservative Girl

I have been busy this week with all the activties in the our nations Capitol with the Obamacare hearings.  We have had something to do everyday since Friday.  Since we are the "locals" it has fallen to us to have representation at the court during the hearings.  Yesterday wasn't an issue with that as AFP had a rally with some faves of the conservative movement.  Afterwards, I went back to the court.  There has been some tension between the pro and con crowds.  I kept getting called a "teabagger" so finally I asked this young woman:
"Can you please explain to me why you feel it is necessary for you to pay for my husband's Viagra?"
She was stunned and didn't know what to say.  I finally have just decided to start changing the narrative.  Many of them don't realize that the no co-pay is not free.  She will be paying for Viagra.  (I have been instructed to add, not needed at my house).

I doubt it will change her mind, but at least it will make her think.

Conservative Girl Adventure - Virginia Tea Party Convention

I made it to Richmond to attend the Virginia Tea Party Convention.  It is the largest such convention of tea party patriots held to date.

We had some very good speakers today and great deal of networking and exchange of ideas.  I am not going to post too much at the moment as I need to get ready for The Freedom Express blowout tonight.  We had a very good Q&A with Governor McDonnell.  I have been known to say that I am not 100% thrilled with everything McDonnell has done, but I still hold out hope that over the next four years he can get our budget under control and bring more jobs to the area.

I did meet some very nice people today from all over the state and I had quite a nice conversation with Griff Jenkins of Fox News, and I met Dick Morris before his speech.  I also had the honor of meeting Smitty from The Other McCain as he is doing some live blogging from the event.  As always, Stacy and Smitty are right in the thick of things.

I will post some videos and pictures a little later and will let you know about our slate of speakers for tomorrow.  Herman Caine being one!!  LOVE HIM.  So I am really looking forward to seeing him and will fill you in on the breakout sessions from today.  They are giving us some very good information about what comes next.  Our job is far from over, November 3rd is the beginning.  Once we get these new people elected, we have to hold their feet to the fire.

Conservative Girl Adventure - Spending Revolt Townhall

Tonight I was invited to attend a townhall given by Spending Revolt.  They are touring around the country holding townhall's on the subject of the out of control spending.

The event was held at a private home in Clifton, VA.  We were joined by our local delegates and county legislators.  We were also joined by Jane Hampton Cook; she used to work for President Bush and is now an author working on historical novels.  Her next novel will be on President Reagan.

You may recognize Tito "The Builder"  He gave a rip roaring speech at the 9/12 March.

We did hear some very disturbing news during the Q&A.  They are in the process of extending out the metro system to Dulles Airport.  This has been a construction project that has been in some form or another in the works since I moved down here 15 years ago.  The federal government has gotten involved with it as well due in part to Congressman Moron Moran.  So the red tape and the costs have increased in leaps and bounds.  There is a toll road that runs along this area.  When I first moved down here the toll was supposed to go away once the road was paid for.  Again, that was 15 years ago and not only is there still a toll it has increased many times over the years.  This area has grown in leaps and bounds due to the technology corridor.  This area of Virginia has basically taken over as the technology area of the country since the bubble burst in Silicon Valley.  If the project keeps going on the path that it is now headed these tolls will reach $8 each way.  Who wants to pay $16 per day in tolls?  Since the federal government has gotten involved the costs for this project have increased by more than 30%.  So, I think that my congressman should stay out of it and let Virginia pay for it itself, it will be cheaper and faster.  Did I mention that they have been working on this project for 15 years?

Defending The American Dream Summit

Americans for Prosperity will be holding its annual conference this year at the end of August.  They will be holding it the same weekend as the Glenn Beck Rally.  This may work out very well for many people that don't live locally.

I went to the summitt last year and really enjoyed myself.  The break out sessions were very enlightening and the Ronald Reagan dinner had great speakers (and the food was pretty good too).  If you were thinking about coming to DC for the Beck rally you may as well come a few days early and enjoy this program as well.  They will also bus you into DC that morning for no charge.

Here is the tentative schedule:

6-28-2010 Defending the American Dream 2010 Agenda

You also can stay at the same hotel for a reduced rate (only $139/per night).  For those that aren't familiar, that is a very good rate in DC.  They also will have a roomate sign up to help reduce the costs.

If you do plan on coming let me know - I will be there!!

Conservative Girl Adventures - Doctor Defending Obamacare

Yesterday while I was out and about I ran into a doctor that I know casually. He is a general practitioner who is in favor of the law that was signed today. His list of reasons included:

Medicare is losing money by not paying for wellness exams. By paying for these exams they can find things at an earlier stage when it is both easier to treat and less expensive. Ok, I think we can all agree this is a good thing. But, it didn’t take almost 3,000 pages to accomplish this.

His bottom line will increase. As a person in favor of capitalism I am ok with that. He writes off tens of thousands of dollars that he is never paid for. Here we have a bit of a disagreement. When I was sick my issues were not really my treatments, but my prescription costs. I didn’t understand that had I called the pharmaceutical company they could have helped me work out a more reasonable rate. I also must be a complete idiot, as I paid back every dime of debt. Apparently most people can’t be bothered. I made arrangements to pay an affordable amount every month. It took me years, but it was paid. I don’t understand why people don’t pay their debts. I know firsthand that if you work with the doctors, they will work with you. Now, I am not saying there are times that people just can't do it.  That absolutely happens.  Again, we can put in safety nets for this.

He told me that he is forced to increase the costs of the insured to cover the under-payments for services from Medicare. Medicare is scheduled to be decreased, not increased. This problem will still exist and may actually get worse as the baby boomers hit retirement age.

I asked him if I came into his office and paid cash in full at the time of visit would this decrease his costs. He said that it would require less administrative time which would lower his overhead costs. So I asked doesn’t it stand to reason that if we move away from insurance dependence instead of increasing it costs would be lowered? He said that would lower staff costs. He currently has five people who do nothing but fill out paperwork for insurance companies. This has been proven to lower costs at Safeway, Whole Foods, and the state employees of Indiana. I have a similar plan. I have a high deductible that is supplemented by a HSA. Once my HSA runs out I then use my insurance. This has been very cost effective for me. Almost all HSA’s will now pay doctors directly, so they will be paid the same way that they are right now by conventional insurance.

My final questions were to ask him if he accepted Medicaid. He does not. So we are increasing the role of Medicaid into the healthcare system, who is going to treat them? What we have done is given people access to insurance. This will not translate to improved health. For improved health wouldn’t they actually have to have access to a doctor? His response was that it is not perfect. Really?

Lastly, and there is no way around this, if I am wrong, so what? My bad, I’ll take responsibility for it, and the country will be better off. If he is wrong, what then? The most innovative medical care in the world could be destroyed. Who is going to be responsible for that?

Conservative Girl Adventures - Obama Rally George Mason University UPDATES

Today, the president was starting his victory lap on the healthcare bill.  A little early I know, but the President's ego is the size of all outdoors, so why not?  The crowd was mainly young, as it took place on a college campus.

For those who are not aware, George Mason is a pretty liberal university.  Big shocker I know!!  I will tell you, for anyone who knows history they will know that George Mason would be rolling over in his grave if he were aware of what the school that is his namesake has become.  I am sure that he is certainly spinning with a president as liberal as the one who spoke there today.

I met a very nice young couple, Allen and Grace, both Obama voters.  Allen grew up in the same area of CT that I did, so we talked a bit about that.  Allen is in favor healthcare reform, but it didn't seem to me that he is very jazzed at how it is happening, nor did he seem to feel that it will actually work.  Grace was wearing a t-shirt with the date of  Bush's last day in office.  Allen told me that his family are liberal and he is as well.  Although, I get this feeling he is more of a left leaning centerist.  He comes about his views on healthcare reform honestly, as his family went through a period of not having insurance, his father had a relatively minor medical problem that took the family many years to pay off.

Allen is a patriot kind of guy, he wants to go work for the government at the NSA or some other type of national security kind of way.  He is currently looking for a co-op position that will allow him to finish school and work, then give him a full time position once he graduates.  We had a very nice chat.

So, after waiting in line for an hour or so, we get let into the building.  The rally was in The Patriot Center, ironically enough.  It holds 10,000 people - it was not even half full.  Which is very surprising considering it was on a very liberal college campus, I also live in a very liberal area.

The morning started out with the pledge of alligence, the National Anthem, and a prayer.  The prayer was something to hear, let me tell you.  For those who were not sure what Glen Beck meant when he said stay away from any place of worship that talks about "social justice", this woman is what he meant.  Her entire prayer (if one could call it that) was about social justice.  If anyone can't figure out how people with views like Obama and Pelosi can have so little problems with passing laws that allow anyone at anytime have an abortion and still call themselves people of faith just need to listen to this woman.  It was all about how the scripture says that we need to take care of the needy and the helpless.  Which is completely true, but no where in the bible does it say that we are supposed to give to the government to do those acts of charity for us.  We are supposed to do that ourselves.  But, this woman certainly believes that the government is supposed to. She quoted Micah as her example.

The president comes out and the crowd goes wild, chanting YES WE CAN.  I of course was totally surrounded by Obama supporters.  Again, that is daily life in Northern Virginia; a sea of blue.  The president started out talking about the vote on Sunday, how historic it was going to be, blah, blah, blah.  He then went into the same old story of that woman in Ohio.  You know the one, the woman who is getting top notch care, that she will not be charged for.  Yet, again he left out that part.

He then went into what "people" were saying that wasn't true about the bill.  I am assuming when he said "people" he was referring to me and people like me; conservatives.  He stood up there an lied.  Again, another shocker.  What was I expecting?  He talked about how he wasn't going to be killing granny, nor would they be adding to the defict.

He also went into this long thing about the "change" he has brought to Washington.  Wait for it, he actually had the nerve to say that he wasn't governing by the wims of special interests.  I could hardly contain myself.  There was no point in me yelling out, as by this point one other person had been forcibly removed for stating some facts.  I guess it was in his best interests that he was removed as he was being booed and people were pointing at him.

Another thing that I found amazing, was that he actually said this had nothing to do with his presidency, it was all for us.  Yeah, you are the man behind the curtain in The Wizard of Oz, don't believe your eyes, just look over here at what I am showing you.

Something that Northern Virginia has a great deal:
Unions
College Students
Liberal Dems

and he still couldn't fill 10,000 seats.  He is losing his mojo.  What a shame, so sad :{

You can't really make it out, but all the upper level seats were empty, and three entire sections had only a couple of people in them.

Why these people were wearing tuxedos, I couldn't tell you.

This is the "heckler" being removed

This is the social justice prayer lady.

Sorry that the pics didn't come out better, but it was hard with all the overhead lights.

Aah, gotta love the media.  WashPo is reporting that 8,000 people were at the rally.  That is simply not possible; I am not good at estimating crowds, but I know what I saw.  Four entire sections had no one.  Not one single section was seated to the top.  Two other sections were only about 1/2 full.  The arena only holds 10,000.  With that many empty seats, there couldn't have been 8,000 in attendance.

Conservative Girl Adventures - CPAC Day 3 - Part 2 Glen Beck

CPAC 2010 came to a close last night with Glen Beck as the Keynote speaker. His speech was an impassioned one about his own trials and tribulations. He spoke about his own battles with alcoholism that caused him to lose virtually everything. He was broke; living in a one room apartment, his marriage failed which caused him to lose the everyday contact with his children. He had hit bottom. From this bottom he rebuilt his life. This was his “Come to Jesus” moment. The question that he was asking is that has the American government had theirs.

Beck didn’t hold back on republicans. He certainly wasn’t there to make nice to the GOP. And I say yeah. The GOP needs to hear that the problems that are going on in our country cannot be blamed all on one party. The truth is we are all to blame; the politicians who are out of control and the American electorate who sat by passively and allowed it to happen.

Of course, it wouldn’t be Beck without the chalkboard, which by the way got a standing O. His speech went into some history of the progressive movement, starting with Teddy Roosevelt. I read around some blogs that he is mischaracterizing Roosevelt’s presidency and ignoring the good things that President Roosevelt accomplished. As usual his point was lost on some. President Roosevelt accomplished some good things while he was in office, but a part of his legacy was the first building block of progressivism. That cannot be denied. My gosh, even Hillary Clinton has gone back to Roosevelt at different times throughout her career; a “modern day Teddy Roosevelt”. John McCain has been quoted as saying that Teddy is one of his favorites. Two progressives that start on different sides of the spectrum, but end up in the same exact place; out of control big government. Teddy Roosevelt was the President that took the first step towards big government in this country, leading us away from the founding principles of limited government that leads to individual liberty. The main point that Beck was trying to make was that party affiliation does not matter; it is the policies that matter.

He quoted the right’s beloved President Reagan and said it is still morning in America. We all just have to stand up and demand that our government start behaving in a way that will allow us to still see it.

Conservative Girl Adventures - CPAC Day 3 - Part 1 GO WEST

A very compelling man running for congress in Florida.  His tea party speech went viral over the summer.  This speech was not quite as firey, but very good all the same.

The Patriot Room had much better seats at CPAC than I, so the pics are awesome, stop by and say hello.

Conservative Girl Adventures - CPAC Day 2 Part 3

Anyone who has previously read my blog knows how much I heart Michele Bachmann.  I have a girl crush on her.  She was the person that I was most looking forward to today.  She came out looking as beautiful as she always does.  She started out with some jokes and talked about her state of Minnesota.  I believe it was her district that had the billboard of Bush with the caption "Miss Me Yet", so she put a slide of the billboard, and then discussed our out of control debt.  She then went into an article by Charles Krauthammer that appeared in The Weekly Standard in October of 2009; Decline is a Choice.  She then went into some interesting American history from both the revolutionary war as well as WWII.  How the history of our country shows that we have always chosen ascendency instead of decline.  It was a very impassioned speech, just as I expected.  Like I said, I LOVE her.

Conservative Girl Adventures - CPAC Day 2 Part 2

It was a great day 2 at CPAC.  Mike Pence gave an amazing speech.  I would highly recommend to anyone that can find the video, please watch.  I am going to a cocktail party now and will post again a little later.

Conservative Girl Adventures - CPAC Day 2 Part 1

It is lunch time at CPAC.  The speeches this morning were quite inspiring.  The biggest thing that I got out of today is that I think that Mike Pence is making a run for president in 12.  His speech was amazing.  If you can find a video, please watch.

He was truly amazing.

Oh, and I got interviewed by the Wall Street Journal.  He wanted my opinions as a person who is new to the political activist world.  So we talked about Palin, Pawlenty, Pence, and the Tea Parties.  It was fun.  I can't wait to see what he writes; maybe my blog will get a mention!!!

Conservative Girl Adventures - CPAC Day 1

Today was the offical start of CPAC.  It was quite a day.  It started out with Marco Rubio.  If you have not heard of him, you don't know what you are missing.  He is a conservative dynamo.  He is smart, articulate, and a staunch conservative.  He is first generation American, his parents escaping Castro's Cuba.  I wish I lived in Florida so I could cast my vote for him.  Marco was a huge hit.  You can take a look at video at Another Black Conservative.

Another suprise for us all was the appearance of Scott Brown; who introducted Mitt Romney.  He was greeted with thunderous applause.  As all conservatives know, he is going to slow down Obamanation.  Mitt also gave a good speech.  I personally am not a huge fan of Mitt, but I like his stance on certain topics.  I believe that he is yet again favored to win the straw poll.  He didn't get my vote, but he has won three years in a row.

Again, I met some great people and am looking forward to tomorrow.  One of my political heros is speaking tomorrow...........Michele Bachman.  I just LOVE her.

Here are a few of the sights

This is the reason we were there right?

You may remember him from the tea party convention coverage.

Me stopping by Smart Girl Politics booth.

I also found a booth that was selling original buttons.  He has buttons from Reagan's first presidental election.  I didn't have any cash with me today, so I will need to stop by tomorrow.  He even had buttons from when Reagan ran for governor.

I had some issues today, and was unable to get many photos, but I will do a better job tomorrow.

Co-Founders, Stacy and Terry, are working very hard to get Smart Girl Nation up and running.  The goal is turn into a place where conservatives can go for information on grassroots activites, conservative candidates, politcal news and commentary.

You will be seeing changes throughout the year.  Come and join us.

Conservative Girl Adventures - Senate Rally Day Part 2

I am having some technical issues with my camera.  Somehow, my cable has gone MIA and I can't download them.  So once I find this, I will post.

In the meantime, you can go here for some videos and pictures of the day.

Conservative Girl Adventures - Senate Rally Day

I have had quite a day today.  I had to run errands this morning and was minding my own business, and needed to go to Home Depot.  Who is on his way there?  The President.  I have lived outside of DC for 13 years.  I have never seen President Clinton, and only saw President Bush at the ball his first night in office.  I have seen Obama three times.  Doesn't he work?

Then I go to the rally at the senate today.  I am minding my own business again.  I stepped away to sneak a smoke (yes very bad for me) something that I don't do much of anymore.  Who do I run into?  Michele Bachman.  That is a high that I am going to carry around for days.  What a thrill.  I just LOVE her.

I then went to Senator Webb's office.  Now, this is the fifth time I have gone there.  This time they actually handed out a op-ed piece he did for a paper in the central part of the state.   The Op-ed said he has not made up his mind.  Politico posted an article saying that he may be able to be turned, but I don't believe that.

The receptionists were basically taking names and handing out this op-ed piece.  Somehow, and I am not sure how, I got invited to meet with his policy analyst, a fellow 9/12'er and PT.  It was an interesting conversation.

I had some personal plans tonight, so I just got home.  I need to get some sleep.  I will post more on this in the am along with the photos that I took.

Have a good night all.

Conservative Girl Adventures - Going Rogue in the Virginia Snow

Yesterday, Sarah Palin came to Northern Virginia for a book signing. It was about 40 degrees and snowing. BJ's didn't allow Sarah Fans to wait inside the store, and yet more than 2,000 people lined up for hours to get thier one minute with Sarah and Todd.

I was among those who braved the elements and took my two books to get signed. I have only waited in line for something like this once in the past. It was for a basketball to be signed by a former New York Knicks player (if I remember correctly it was Anthony Mason) for my then young nephew. I think he was about 6 or 7 at the time. I am not even sure if he still has the basketball, but that was done in the afternoon in the spring. So the two don't really compare to one another.

So standing outside in a big parking lot in the snow at 7 am was a very different experience. One of the many reasons that I am a huge fan of Sarah's is the fact that she seems to be so much like me. Along with Todd and Trig, her parents and her Aunt Mary came along. Her mom and her aunt went and greeted every person who was standing in line and thanked them for waiting in the cold and snow. Her dad said good-bye to every person upon leaving, while taking turns keeping Trig happy. He actually was smiling at the people who were waving to him. She is a woman who loves her family.

Another reason that I have such admiration for Sarah is the fact that she is one of a very, very few who will stand up for the most vulnerable in our society; people with special needs. They are the forgotten amongst us. It is rare indeed to hear someone with such national stature to talk about the special needs community. While Northern Virginia is one of the best places in the country to live if you are dealing with a special needs person in your family as the aid is plentiful compared to other parts of the nation. That doesn't change the facts that our society is not very accepting of them. So it is a breath of fresh air for special needs moms and dads to hear a loud and clear voice talking about the joy that these very sweet kids add to their families. It gives hope in between the disappointments you watch your child go through when they are yet again left out of everyday activities.

We were standing outside in the cold and snow for what seemed like forever, yet you heard no yelling, screaming, or demanding answers from the police that were there. We took turns making hot cocoa runs, and kept each places in line for bathroom runs. The bathroom runs were good because it gave your feet a chance to warm up. We talked about politics and our fears of the direction the country is headed to. We also discussed our feelings of a presidential run by Sarah. I was in the minority. I am not really pro at her making a run for the nomination in 12. While I would vote for her, I don't think she could win a general election and that would give Obama four more years. So, I would rather she stepped aside for someone who has a real shot at kicking Obamanation to the curb in three years.

We did have some protesters joining us. They were way at the other end of the parking lot. I am not sure if that was by choice or the police asked them to go there. There were four of them, and they carried signs that read "Sarah is not Trig's Mother", "Keep Abortion Legal", and "What are you going to quit next?” I found The Washington Post take on the whole thing interesting........."The weather dampened planned protests". I happened to see the guy from the Washington Post doing his work up for this story. He interviewed a few people, and I asked him if he was planning on doing a hatchet job on her, and his response was that his story was on the people who showed up as opposed to being on Sarah herself.

It was great to see so many young and engaged people who were lined up to get a glimpse at our "conservative rock star". I met people as young as 11, her brother was 14 or so and he was the one that begged his mother to take them. His feelings on Sarah are that she is an everyday person who understands the average American. She has a populist following that cannot be denied.
