Specter has lost his primary bid and his wishy washy senate career will come to end in January.

I am not exactly sure who's idea this was, but I doubt it is going to have the desired effect. 

To be honest, there is a part of me that would like to see Specter win the primary, so we can watch him lose  against a real republican in November. 

Spector "I am a Democrat, no I am a Republican, Wait I want to be democrat again" Wants to Know What Michele Bachmann Stands For

Arlen "I have no real principles" Specter was having a debate with Michele Bachmann on a Philadelphia radio station yesterday.  During which he asked Congresswoman Bachmann to explain what she stood for.  It seems to me, Sen. Specter, that is the last question you should be asking of anyone.  You have changed parties not once, but twice. 

While answering the question, Bachmann went into tax cuts for businesses and estate taxes, and keeping government from overreaching with unsustainable spending.  Bachmann and Specter started speaking over one another, and Arlen didn't take too kindly to this.

His response was "Act like a lady", which of course Bachmann shot back that she is a lady.  The back and forth debate continued and Spector once again told her that he was trying to treat her like a lady and she should act like one. 

Arlen, let me give you a piece of advice;

Don't question the motives of someone who is steadfast in her beliefs, you just look silly even trying. 

Credit where credit is due

Senator Specter showed up at his townhall today. Considering what happened to him last week, I give him credit. He is also having another one this afternoon. He answered questions. Well, sort of. He avoided and dismissed some, but he stood there.

Senator Cardin showed up in Maryland as well. Again he answered the questions and stood there when it was tense and emotional. He will be hosting another one tomorrow.

The reason I am pointing this out; neither one of my senators are planning any. I actually voted for one of them.

I want to give a hat tip to those that show up knowing it is going to be uncomfortable and hard.

Arlen Specter: Principled or Sore Loser?

Yesterday 79 year old Arlen Specter, Senator from the commonwealth of Pennsylvania, left the republican party to become a democrat. This shortly after telling Newsweek that he would not. If Senator Specter was doing this out of principle, I would applaud the move. I believe that our elected officials must lead based on principle. While I may not agree with the principles that particular people have, I, at least, will respect that they are doing it based on their value system.
Senator Specter has shown none of that in the past few days. The polling showing him losing badly to Pat Toomey is the reason for his departure of the GOP. Doesn't this just make him look like a man who can't handle losing? What is so unbelievable is how easily he admits it. Just flat out says that he can't win as a republican, so hey, what the heck, I am not ready to retire so I am going to walk away from my principles and do whatever is needed to win.
I am having a hard time understanding why he just didn't go through the primary process and run as an independent if he did indeed lose the nomination. It worked for Joe Lieberman, Independent Senator from Connecticut. While I don't promote that activity, it makes more sense than just up and leaving your party for nothing more than self-serving purposes.
How can anyone trust the man from this point forward? What will stop him from making a realization after getting elected that he did the wrong thing and want to go back to the republicans? I doubt they would want him back after this, but all the same, it could happen. I don't live in Pennsylvania, so I have no say in how this turns out. But one must admit, it is going to be a fun election to watch.
